Roderick Byron Malone, the only child of Joe H. and Gloria McMurray Malone, was born on December 2, 1967. He became a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church at a young age. Participating in traditional youth activities, such as Vacation Bible School, Rod was a proud member of the Junior Usher Board.
Roderick spent his early years of education in Catholic schools; however, he graduated from Theodore Roosevelt High School in the Northeast Independent School District. He matriculated to Southwest Texas State University, now Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas, where he majored in Criminal Justice. His career path took many turns. His resume includes experience as a Correctional Officer in Lockhart, Texas; Hotel Operations and Management; Retail Sales for Cellular Technology; and Charter Transportation.
Rod loved life. He loved and would stay connected with family and friends, making it a practice to call and check-in at least once a month, and definitely more often, if he had something good to share. Rod found great joy in his grandmothers, and this feeling was mutual. We know they are having an awesome reunion now.
Rod’s physical presence will be missed, but his spirit will be among us always.
Roderick was preceded in death by his mother, Gloria McMurray Malone; his grandparents, Joe and Allie B. Malone; Reuben and Juanita McMurray. Those left with memories are his father, Joe H. Malone, Jr.; two aunts, Arlene Stanley and Patricia A. McMurray; one uncle, Eddie McMurray; a God-sister, A’Reille G. Thomas; and many other relatives and friends
