Born to Richard and Dorothy Sapenter on July 12, Richardene grew up in San Antonio and graduated from Sam Houston HS. She went on to receive her B.A. in education and English from the University of Incarnate Word and then a master’s degree from Trinity University.
An avid reader, writer and devoted educator, Richardene taught English and Reading at Escobar MS and E.T. Wren MS in the Edgewood ISD for 31 years. Richardene loved God and spreading the Good News. She joined Willow Park Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) under the leadership of Pastor Thomas Hadley, Sr., and became an active member, using her talents over her skills of writing and educating by being the General Secretary for Pastor Thomas Hadley Sr. She also led, presided and was a member of several auxiliaries and committees including the Christian Women’s Fellowship, Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School Youth and Women’s Teacher, Vacation Bible School Coordinator, Christian Youth Fellowship, Finance committee and WPCC Choir.
On November 4, 1978, Richardene married her classmate, co-worker and the love of her life, Rev. Dr. Henry J. Keys, Jr, who later became pastor of Willow Park Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). From this union, two daughters, Dorothy and Laura were born. Her devotion and love for her church continued under the leadership of her husband and Pastor JB Brown III.
Early morning November 4, 2020 God wrapped his arms around Richardene and welcomed her into eternal rest. Her memory is kept alive by her daughters, brothers, nieces, nephews and friends.

You have fought the good fight. You have finished the race. You kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up a crown of righteousness.Â
2 Timothy 4:7-8.Â
We were truly blessed to have had a wonderful God sent woman as Sis. Keys and her kindness shall never be forgotten. I will always remember her or Deacon Keys at the time rushing to drop their beautiful daughters off with my grandmother, Lucy Baker, to baby sit while they continued onto work. Sending our love and peace with sincere condolences from Cookie, Bernadette Baker and Family. It appears that my grandmother shares the 11/4 as the day she decided to go home as well in 2013. We are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses and are blessed to have journeyed in this life with her as well as her husband.
Richardene was one of the beautiful people I knew. Her kindness went well beyond just knowing you as a friend or family member. I am so happy that her family wa a part of our family â¤ï¸
