Prentice Matthew Houston, born Micheal Marvin New on April 25, 1979, in Fairbanks, Alaska, passed away peacefully on July 31, 2026, at the age of 47. He was a beloved son, brother, uncle, godfather, and friend whose wisdom, warmth, and vibrant spirit deeply enriched the lives
of all who knew him.

Prentice was born to Linda Kaye Smith and Mason Melvin New Jr. Strategic in planning his life, he approached his goals with dedication, regularly achieving milestones that surprised no one who knew his drive. Among his proudest accomplishments was purchasing his first home in
Atlanta—a testament to his ambition and hard work.

Driven by a passion for helping others, Prentice dedicated his career to healthcare administration, working diligently in medical insurance processing. He prioritized his education and professional growth, celebrating his recent graduation from Strayer University in May with a
Bachelor of Science in Business Management.

Faith and family remained the cornerstone of Prentice’s life, from his early years growing up in the church alongside his siblings to his active participation in youth ministry. Above all, he desired for his family to be strong, united, and connected. He poured endless love into his
extended family, cherishing his numerous cousins and delighting in his role as an uncle. He was famous for his long, meaningful phone calls—spending two to three hours engaging in deep, intelligent conversations with those he held dear.

A man of exceptional style, Prentice also loved to sing, bringing immense joy to his family whenever he shared his musical gift. His stylish presence, steadfast encouragement, and beautiful voice will be forever cherished.

Prentice is survived by his loving parents, Linda Kaye Smith and Mason Melvin New Jr.; his devoted siblings: Mason Melvin New III, Lakisha Lashawn New, Marcus Maurice New, Lanisha Ladawn Martin (Roger Eugene Martin), Monique New, Melvin Victoria, Azalea New, Jeremiah New, and Jason Smith; his cherished nieces: Desia Carter, Akaila Carter, Tajae New, Tayler Staley, Raeanna New, Simone Rice, Jamiah New, Latavia New, Pashawn New, Chloe Martin, and Bree McGee; his beloved nephews: Adrian New and great-nephew Brandon Bailey; his great-nieces: Ava Edwards and Skylar Crampton (goddaughter); as well as an abundant circle of cousins uniting multiple family branches, extended family members, and dear friends.
