Martin “Marty 7” Douglas Coleman Lewis July 17, 1952 – October 21, 2026 Martin Douglas Coleman Lewis, affectionately known as Marty, passed away on October 20, 2026, at the age of 74. Born on July 17, 1952, Marty leaves behind a lifetime of unforgettable stories, cherished friendships, and a family who meant more to him than anything in the world. That family extended to his three cherished Fur babies. Killa-Boo, London, and Dolomite.

Marty served as a detective with the San Antonio Police Department for 32 years. The brotherhood he found in SAPD and in the motorcycle clubs he loved held a special place in his life. His brothers on the force and on the road loved him, and those bonds were an important part of his story. He loved motorcycles, taking pictures, and cooking meals worth remembering. An amazing cook and an avid photographer, Marty found joy both in creating something to share and in capturing moments to keep.

Despite his tough exterior, his tattoos, and his signature two-toned silver and black beard, Marty had a soft, gentle heart and was never far from his emotions. He was a mama’s boy at heart, and he deeply cherished the memories of both his parents, who preceded him in death. Above all, Marty was proud of his three children, Naomi, Marty “Wess”, and Bryan. Nothing meant more to him than being their father.

With every grandchild, his heart grew softer and bigger still. He could never share enough pictures, tell enough stories, or find enough ways to show the world how much his children and grandchildren meant to him. His pride in his family was unmistakable, and his love for them was at the center of his life. Through the hardships that come and go in this life, Marty knew our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. The greatest gift he gave his children was planting the seed of the gospel and the hope of heaven in their hearts.

His family takes comfort in knowing he is now resting peacefully in the presence of the King of kings, reunited in the arms of his parents, hearing the words, “Well done.” Marty is survived by: brother, Eugene Douglas Colemen: Children, Naomi Jean Miles, Marty John Wesley “Wess” Lewis, Brian Alexandria “Bre” Lewis. He was later blessed with 9 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Doris Douglas Lewis, John Wesley Lewis and his beloved “Killa Boo”. Everyone who met Marty has a story about him they will never forget. Those stories will live on among his children and grandchildren, his brothers in SAPD and the motorcycle community, and the many people whose lives crossed his. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered—in the photographs he took, the meals he shared, and the memories that will always bring his family and friends back to him. He was a man of faith, love and devotion to his family.

Although this time is trying and our hearts are hurting, we will continue sharing his stories and unforgettable moments, remembering a life full of adventure. As Dad always said, “Zoom Zoom.” Until we meet again.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. No words can express how deeply saddened we are to hear about Marty’s passing. Morning was not only a family member of ours, but he was also married to my sister Beverly at one point, and he always kept in touch with us. We’re gonna miss Marty, and I’m personally gonna miss Marty because we had the same birthday, July 17th, and we would always reach out to one another during that time. He was just incredible. I remember him when he was married to my sister. He would come up from college in San Angelo and stay at the house—just a fine, fine young man. I’m just saddened right now. The loss saddens the entire Tinner family, but for you, the Lewis family, stay encouraged and stay strong, and know that Marty served the community of San Antonio not only as a police officer, but as an outstanding young man.

    Sincerely, the Tinner family.

  2. Marty was a good police officer, led a life that mattered to community, friends, and especially family. RIP Marty Lewis, peace to your family. It was a pleasure to know you! Capt Billy Anders, SAPD, (ret 1996)…

  3. Marty’s father, John Lewis, worked for my father at SAPD, when I was a child and met John. Later, I attended Highlands High School, where I met Marty, who told me John was his father, which gave us a family connection. We graduated Highlands in 1970 and he was able to join SAPD cadet class 72B since he was 9 days older than me. I joined the following class, 72C, where we reunited and worked different units but stayed friends. His father, John, always had a huge smile and happy disposition, which Marty inherited from his father. We passed messages and jokes on Facebook Messenger as late as Monday evening. Then I found out he passed away that night or early Tuesday morning. What a shock. He spoke about his children and grandchildren often with love and devotion. We will all miss that smile. Rest in peace my friend.

  4. I worked with Marty for years in the Vice unit. He was quite a character. I have a lot of great memories working with him whether we were working prostitution cases or liquor violations. He would get his work done and go check on his mother almost every day. He said he loved sitting in Dad’s easy chair. Anybody that worked with him knew his favorite sayings “Hard to believe “ and someone would reply “Not that hard “
After he retired I would see him frequently at the Harley shop. He will be missed. I’m praying for his family.
I’m sad that I won’t be able to make his service but I want his family to know that I am there in spirit. Good bye my friend until we see each other again. Rest in Peace
