Joseph Anthony Morgan, Jr., 85, of San Antonio, Texas, passed away peacefully on November 11, 2025, surrounded by his family and close friends.
Born on December 24, 1939, in New Orleans, Louisiana, Joe was the son of Joseph Morgan Sr. and Gertrude Ruth Adams. He lived a life defined by service, dedication, and unwavering love for his family.
Sgt. Major Joseph Morgan enjoyed a distinguished military career, serving 28 years on active duty and an additional 18 years in Civil Service after retiring from the Army. He attained the rank of Sergeant Major in 1983 and was the recipient of numerous honors, including the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, the Army Commendation Medal, the Meritorious Service Award, and many other professional awards recognizing his exemplary service and leadership.
Joe had many passions that brought him joy throughout his life. He loved working on and restoring old cars, fishing, watching football—especially his beloved New Orleans Saints and Dallas Cowboys—and playing poker. Above all, Joe cherished time with his family and friends. He was known for his strong sense of duty, pragmatism, and unwavering steadiness. His commitment to family and his steadfast love and care were the hallmarks of his character and the legacy he leaves behind.
Joe is survived by his devoted wife of 67 years, Jacqueline Francis Marie (Dumas) Morgan; his siblings, Maurice Morgan, and Ruby Boisseau; Brother in-law Andy Boisseau and Sister-in law Edith Morgan; his children, Michelle and Cyrus Scarver, Helen and Kenneth Campbell, Brian and Jeanette Morgan, and Kathy Morgan; his grandchildren, Blake Morgan, Jessica Morgan, David Lionheart, Christopher Morgan, Robert Hernandez, Devin Morgan, Joytesha Morgan, Bryce Scarver, Mariah Scarver, Alisha Morgan, Sidney Campbell, Steven Campbell, and Allen Davis; and his great-grandchildren, Ja’Mire, Alija, Semaj, and Alandra. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends who loved him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Morgan Sr.; his mother, Gertrude Ruth Adams; his sisters, Rose Hawkins and Eleanor Alcorn; and his sons, Joseph Morgan III and David Morgan.
A funeral service will be held on December 3, 2025, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, located at 1819 Nevada Street, San Antonio, Texas 78203. Visitation will begin at 9:45 AM on the same day.
