Joanne Howard Jones, a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and dear friend, entered eternal rest on August 10, 2026, just three days before her 76th birthday. Though her time with us has come to an end, the love, memories, and beautiful legacy she leaves behind will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
Joanne was a homemaker, and a woman who believed in God. She was a faithful member of Grace Baptist Church in Columbus, GA for many years. She cherished the simple joys of life. She loved watching wrestling, cooking, dancing, and listening to music. She took pride in looking and smelling nice and enjoyed shopping and taking care of herself. She had a beautiful spirit and a personality that made her presence special to those around her.
A proud graduate of South Girard High School in Phenix City, Alabama, Joanne married Allen Derby Jones Jr., shortly after graduating from high school. She later shared 25 loving years with her partner, Roderick Plummer, until his passing. In her later years, she was blessed with the loving companionship of Roger Walker Sr., who remained faithfully by her side and cared for her during her final days.
Joanne was a protective and devoted mother who always made sure everyone was taken care of. She was the kind of person who wanted to know that her family was safe, loved, and provided for. Her love was evident not only in her words, but in the way she showed up for the people she cared about.
Joanne was preceded in death by her parents; Allen Derby Jones Jr.; and her loving partner of 25 years, Roderick Plummer.
She leaves to cherish her precious memory her loving children, Samuel Howard (Ashia), LaTonya Newsome (David), and Kali Bates (Kevin); her beloved granddaughter, Tania Bates; her sisters, Georgia Mae, Linda, Debra, and Emma Jean; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other close relatives, and dear friends.
Though Joanne may no longer be with us in body, her love will continue to live through her children, granddaughter, sisters, family, friends, and all whose lives she touched. Her laughter, strength, caring heart, and the memories she created will never be forgotten.
Rest peacefully, Joanne. You are deeply loved, forever remembered, and will always hold a special place in our hearts.

There will never be enough words to explain what it feels like to lose you. A part of my heart left with you, because before I was anything to anyone else, I was your daughter.
I am happy that you are finally free from the suffering you endured for far too long, but my heart is broken because I still want you here with me. I still want to hear your voice, see your smile, call you just because, and have one more moment to tell you how much I love you.
You were my first love, my teacher, my comfort, and the woman who helped shape me into the woman I am today… No matter how old I became, there was something about simply knowing my Momma was here that made everything feel a little more okay.
I will miss you more than words could ever express. Please keep a watchful eye over all of us, and when I need you most, remind my heart that you are still near.
Until God allows me to see you again, I will carry you with me in everything I do.

To the Jones family…my deepest condolences are with you all during this difficult time. Tonya ( Lil Bit) after reading such beautiful memories about your mother…I know now where you got you pizazz from and that dancing.
