With profound love and cherished memories, we celebrate the life of Jesse Elmo Miller,
II, affectionately known as “Spanky” by those he loved. Peacefully entering his eternal
rest on July 10, 2026, just days after celebrating his 93rd birthday.
Born on July 1, 1933, in San Antonio, Texas, Jesse was the only child of Jesse E. Miller
I and Helen Marlyn Summers Miller. He graduated from St Peter Claver Catholic
School, a private school for African American students in 1951. Determined to further
his education, he attended Prairie View A&M University, where he earned his Bachelor’s
Degree of Applied Science degree in 1955.
Jesse dedicated 36 years of faithful service to the United States Postal Service, retiring
as a respected Postmaster Supervisor. His unwavering work ethic, integrity, and
commitment earned him the admiration of colleagues and the respect of everyone who
had the privilege of working alongside him.
In 1950 Jesse married the love of his life and childhood sweetheart Carole Voncelle
Hegwood Miller. Together they built a beautiful life and were blessed with eight children.
Their marriage was rooted in love, faith, laughter, and unwavering devotion.
Through the 35 years they spent together, they created a legacy of cherished memories
before Carole’s passing in 1985.
After retirement, Jesse embraced life and its simple pleasures. Whether on the golf course,
around a domino table, enjoying a game of pool, or playing cards -especially poker- he
treasured every moment spent with family (cousins especially) and friends. His candid
spirit and competitive nature made every gathering memorable.
In 2003, Jesse met Cora LeCroy, who would later become his beloved wife. They were
united in marriage in 2016. They shared countless adventures together traveling from
the Gulf Coast to the Pacific Ocean. Their love was evident to those around them,
reflected in care, laughter, and the companionship they shared until his final days.
Jesse was known for his generous heart, unwavering kindness, and genuine honesty.
He never hesitated to speak his mind, but his words were grounded in wisdom, love,
and sincerity. He was a trusted source for guidance, a devoted husband, a loving father
and grandfather, and a loyal friend. His legacy of strength, compassion, and
unconditional love will continue to inspire all those whose lives he’s touched.
Jesse was preceded in death by his beloved parents; Jesse E Miller I and Helen Marlyn
Summers Miller, his first wife, Carole Voncelle Hegwood Miller; and his two sons, Glenn
and Michael Miller.
He leaves to cherish his precious memory his devoted wife, Cora LeCroy Miller, his
children, Yolanda Blackwell, David Miller, Jesse Miller III, Sharon Johnson, Robert
Miller, and Johnny Gonzalez; his bonus daughter, Eugenia Taylor, affectionately known
as Peanut; his cherished (19) grandchildren; (20+) great-grand children; (2) great-
great-grand children, extended family; cousins and countless friends whose lives were
forever enriched by his kindness, wisdom, and unwavering love.
Though our hearts are heavy with sorrow, we find comfort in knowing that Spanky live a
life of purpose, faith, compassion, and service. He leaves behind a legacy defined by
love, integrity, generosity, laughter, and service. His legacy of love, generosity, laughter,
and strength will continue to live on in the hearts of all those who were blessed to know
and love him.
