Janice Elizabeth Perkins

Janice Elizabeth Perkins was born to Willie L. Hodge and Eleanor Dixon Hodge on October 19, 1942 in Lodi, Texas. She peacefully departed this life at home on September 13, 2026 around noon. She had a great childhood growing up with four siblings. She graduated from Central High School in Jefferson, Texas and went on to nursing school at St. Phillips College in San Antonio, Texas.

She obeyed the gospel of Jesus Christ in 1979 and was a faithful member of the Ft. Sam Houston church of Christ. Instrumental people such as Lillian Hilliard, Mae Ruth Davis, Robert J. Davis were responsible for her spiritual edification during these formative years of her Christian walk. Because of this, one of her sons was influenced to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and has been for almost 30 years.

Janice leaves to cherish her memory a devoted husband of 49 years, James Ray Perkins, and five children: James A. Bonner (Tracy); Michelle C. Son; Michael A. Bonner I (Evelyn); Michelle Hewitt and Clifton R. Perkins, along with her cherished sister, Beverly McClemore and beloved brother L. B. Hodge (Joyce). She also leaves a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great children to cherish her memory. She is preceded in death by her parents Willie L. Hodge and Eleanor Hodge, brother Willie B. Hodge, and sister Jackie L. West, and one son, Darrell D. Perkins. 

Janice loved people. She loved caring for the needs of people and worked as an LVN for over thirty years. She loved working for the Highland’s Nursing Home on Pecan Valley Rd. She loved reading her bible, singing hymns, offering wisdom, going to worship services and debating with her husband (Her mother used to send her away with her father because she always wanted to question her and debate everything). She really appreciated him for what he did for his family and especially her children. He treated them very well and she was eternally grateful for that. . She adored her grandchildren and always wanted what was best for them. 

Special thanks to our sister Little Michelle for her unswerving dedication to care for our mother AND father when the rest of us were not in close proximity. None of this could have been possible without you and you will not be lacking in anything because of your service. We want to thank the Ft. Sam Houston church of Christ for their continual love and spiritual development of our mother and their sister in Christ. The congregation and her leadership is special and will always be lifted up in prayer for their consistency. We want to thank Kindful Hospice Care (Terry and Robyn) for your love and comfort during these times of need. Thanks to our brother Ray, our nephew and nieces for their help and comfort in mom’s final moments. Finally, thanks to our God and Father who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ (1 Corinthians 15.57).
