March 21, 1948 ~ May 11, 2026

Born in: Birmingham, Alabama
Resided in: Marion, TX

On March 21, 1948, Gerald Wayne Wood Sr. was born in Birmingham, Alabama to devoted parents Jim and Villette Wood. Gerald accepted Christ at an early age. He was a member of Williams Chapel CME and never changed his church membership, even after moving to Marion, Texas โ€” a testament to his steadfast faith.

A proud United States Army Vietnam Veteran, Gerald served his country with honor and his family with his whole heart. He never sought accolades, but through quiet strength and unwavering resolve, he shaped the lives of those around him.

On May 11, 2026, our beloved Dad peacefully transitioned from this life into eternity surrounded by his loving family.

He was preceded in death by his parents Jim and Vilettie Wood; brothers James Nelson, Arthur, Michael, Eddie Joe, and Felton; and sisters Mae, Bernice, and Mary.

Gerald leaves to mourn a wife, Yvonne, and his cherished children: Tawana (Larry) Simms of San Antonio, TX; Vonetta (Melvin) Hester of Marion, TX; Gerald (Maricella) Wood Jr. of San Antonio, TX; and Adrian Wood of Okinawa, Japan. He also leaves ten grandchildren whom he loved dearly: Harvey (Rosemary) Brunner, Derrell Brunner, Jasmine Beale, Melvin Hester Jr., Tatyana Wood, Julian Wood, Jaylan Wood, Aria Wood, Amaya Wood, and Brayden Wood. Three brothers also survive him: David (Elizabeth) Wood of Charlotte, NC; Jim Wood of Birmingham, AL; and Richard (Lisa) Wood of Birmingham, AL โ€” along with a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends whose lives he touched.

Dad, husband, veteran, man of faith โ€” your legacy lives on in every one of us. Rest easy, Gerald. Your work here was done well. ๐Ÿ•Š๏ธโค๏ธ
