Sis. Geneva “Gee Gee” Eddington was born on May 25, 1931, to Matt and Anna Shaw in Hearne, Texas. She was the baby girl of five children. She attended the Blackshear School System and graduated at the age of 16 yrs. old.
Geneva moved to San Antonio, TX in 1951 to join her husband who was stationed at Ft. Sam Houston base. She worked tirelessly to complete her education while working a full-time job and taking care of family. Geneva received her associates degree in Business from St. Phillips College in 1969 and her bachelor’s degree in healthcare in 1980 from Southwest Texas state University. She retired from University Hospital Health System in 1995 as an administrative operation manager with 27 years of service. Geneva worked a substitute teacher in East Central School District for 5 years before leaving to care for her beloved husband.
Geneva gave her life to Christ at an early age and was baptized at Old Elam Baptist Church in Hearne, TX under Rev. Murphy. She joined Friendship Baptist Church in 1955 under the leadership of the late Rev. G.C. Coleman. Geneva served her church in various roles until her health failed. She was a woman of faith and loved the Lord.
Geneva was an avid bowler and participated in 45 national bowling tournaments. She loved to play cards and was a member of a card club for several years. Geneva enjoyed traveling around the world with her traveling buddy, Georgia Freeman. She loved her family and never met a stranger. She prepared dinner every Sunday and any and everyone was welcomed. Her unconditional love for people was contagious, with her ever-present award-winning smile. Oh, how she loved the Dallas cowboys and Spurs!
Geneva united in holy matrimony with Vernal Eddington, June 2, 1950, for 53 beautiful years. This union welcomed three daughters: Carolyn, LaVerne, Marilyn Faye, and Vickie Renee.
On January 10th, at 8:57 A.M., Geneva ended her journey on earth to join her parents: Matt and Anna Shaw; husband, Vernal “Big Daddy” Eddington: brothers: Irwin and Freddie Lee Shaw and sister, Annie B. Omg, I just found out that Mrs. Eddington was called Home by God. We were neighbors on Lamar Street. After moving back to San Antonio, I spoke with her a few times. I will never forget her weekly home made German Chocolate Cakes. Carolyn, Marilyn, and Vickie, you all and Families are in my thoughts and prayers
