Ann P. Carter was born, May 19, 1940, in Charleston Mississippi and was the fifth child born to Pearl and Effie Smith. She had three brothers and one sister. Virgil L. Smith, Eugene Smith, James O. Smith and Virginia A. Wright. Ann entered into eternal rest on May 13, 2026, she is preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband, Robert A. Carter, parents Pearl and Effie Smith, brother Eugene Smith, sister Virginia Wright and brother Virgil L. Smith.

Ann graduated from John Hay High School in Cleveland, Ohio. After high school, she attended Central State College in Wilberforce, Ohio where she met and married Robert A. Carter. To this union were born three daughters, Rita Lynn, Joyce Renee and Kimberly Ann. She was a devoted wife and mother and supportive of her husband’s many years of military service. She enjoyed his tours of duty in, Germany, Panama, Puerto Rico, Philadelphia, Kentucky, California, Virginia, Massachusetts, San Antonio Texas and their many vacations in the United States, Canada and throughout the world.

During Bob’s military service, Ann completed her education, receiving a B.A. Degree in Sociology at Glassboro State College, New Jersey and a Master’s degree in education Guidance and Counseling, Inter American University, Puerto Rico. After completing her Teaching and Reading Specialist Certification from the University of Texas, San Antonio, she became a dedicated Reading teacher for nineteen years at E.T. Wrenn Jr. High in the Edgewood Independent School District and Harris Middle School in the San Antonio Independent School district. In 1984, she received the Trinity award for excellence in teaching at the E.T. Wrenn campus. She retired May 31, 2001 from Harris Middle school in the San Antonio Independent School District where she had taught for ten years.

Ann confessed a Hope in Christ at an early age and was baptized at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist church in Charleston, Mississippi. After her family moved to Cleveland, Ohio, when she was ten years old, she joined with Shiloh Baptist Church where she was nurtured and supported in her Christian growth by many caring adults. She surrendered and committed her life to Christ after joining with Second Baptist Church in San Antonio, Texas. She was a faithful member until her death. While at Second Baptist she served as, Directress of the Junior Church, Junior Girls Sunday school teacher, President of the Ministers Deacons Trustees Auxiliary, President of the Earnest Workers Circle, President of the Women’s Missionary Union and member of Sunday School Class #4. She was a member of the City-Wide Goodwill Council, San Antonio retired Teachers Association. Silver Life member NAACP and served as a Vitas Hospice Volunteer for 11 years.

She leaves to cherish her love and memory, daughters Rita Lynn Jones, Joyce Renee Carter, Kimberly Ann Anderson (Troy Anderson), grandchildren, Andrea O. Jones, Adrienne Nicole Jones, Brian Nichols Carter, Michael Troy Anderson, Monique Sherise Anderson, great-grandchildren, Marcus Linell Jones Jr., Maelaya Latrice Jones, Marlon Lawrence Jones, Jenelle Asia Anderson, Deandre Troy Anderson, Marcus Troy Anderson. Sister in -law Beverly Bowles (deceased) and a host of relatives and church friends.
