Sarah Grant

August 10, 1951 ~ September 6, 2021

Sarah Grant “Baby Doll” was born on August 10, 1951, to Eddie Charles Mitchell
(Blakely, GA) and Lola Mae Williams (Temple, TX). She, her brother, and four
sisters were raised in San Antonio, TX by their mother and stepfather, Robert Lee
Gaines.
The late Reverend Houston Duncan, of New Hope Baptist Church baptized Sarah
at an early age. She participated in all church activities but was most known for her
role in her family Gospel group “The Gaines Sisters.” Sarah graduated from
Phyllis Wheatley High School in 1970, where she gained popularity as a
cheerleader.
As a young adult, Sarah worked with children in the San Antonio Neighborhood
Young Organization. In 1971, she married Earl F. Grant, Jr. To this union, Earl F.
Grant, III and Trina R. Grant were born.
Sarah was a compassionate caregiver with a passion for working with the elderly
as a vocational nurse in Louisiana and Texas. Her compassion and fire to help
others burned brighter when she recently decided to enroll in the Fall 2021
semester to pursue an undergraduate degree in nursing. Sarah loved cooking,
baking, and trying new culinary specialties with various spices. She knew her way
around the BBQ pit and often shared thoughtful dishes filled with a cup of love and
sprinkles of encouragement.
Sarah departed this life peacefully on September 6, 2021. Preceding her in death
are her parents, her son, Earl F. Grant III; sisters, Kaye Dukes, Livie Waiters,
Janetta Prince, and her nephew, Troy Prince.
She leaves to cherish her memories her husband, Deacon Earl F. Grant Jr.,
daughter, Trina R. Grant; grandchildren Donovan Malachi Norman and Sarah
Makayla Beasley; one brother, Clyde Smith Jr. (Kathleen), two sisters, Elder
Sheona Hinton (Tom) and Bettye Jean Belle (Muncie, IN); nieces, Teresa

Guestbook

  1. Baby Doll was a loving sister. We were close and never parted without saying “I Love You” to one another. I cherish all the memories of the times we shared together for she was a fun loving compassionate spirit who worked hard, played hard and loved deeply. Praise God that she now has peace.

    Forever Sisters,
Elder Sheona Hinton; formerly known as Sheila.
