WILLIE E. FOSTER,SR.

April 17, 1922 ~ April 9, 2020

Deacon Willie Edward Foster passed away on April 9, 2020, at his home in San Antonio Texas. He was horn on April 17, 1922 to the parentage of Mack and Annie Foster in Fort Worth, Texas. He was the second child born to Mr. and Mrs. Foster. He was preceded by both his parents, His older brother Mack H. and younger brother James F. Foster and one son James Foster and one daughter Ann Gibbs children mother's Nellie Mae Lane, Orelia Brown Foster and Josie Mae Thomas preceded him in death.

He accepted Christ at an early age under the leadership of Rev. Rufus Wilson. He attended Phyllis Wheatley High School.

Before joining the Army Foster was employed as a chauffeur for judge for J. R. Wilson, most of the driving done within city limits but some made across county. In 1942 he joined the Army and served in WWII.  Foster had a date of separation 1946 as Sergeant Quarter Master. After discharge from the Army he worked on Fort Sam Houston Army Base as a furniture mover. And later went to work at Kelly Air Held and retired m 1986 after 34 years of service.

Foster is a Prince Hall Freemason with Star Tom Lodge No 100, a life time member of Moussa Temple No 106 (Prince Hall Shriners), and a Deacon and an active Usher until his hearth declined. Legionnaire Willie Foster, 97, the oldest member of Fred Brock American Legion Post No 828 was recognized for his service during the annual Miss Black San Antonio Pageant Scholarship held at the Carver Community Cultural Center. Foster stated it felt good to be recognized "This was a tremendous gift”. Said Foster to the more than 400 guests in attendance not only for myself but  as a representative of Fred Brock American Legion Post No 828.

Things Willie loves to do Fish, play Pinochle, card games, Pool, one arm Band, Barbecue, Western Movies and CNN.

Foster loved FAMILY. He showed up at every event early and dressed to the nine. His daughter Gladys made sure of that. Daddy was the Patriarch to the family. He was the glue that kept the family together. Foster lived for American Legion, he was proud to be a member. He loved to interact with people. I know Foster will be missed by many. Thank you for all of his closest friends: Penny, Cora, Vickie, Andrea, Tinka, and Joyce. The Legion staff who always looked out for our father, thank you for always letting us know if something was wrong or didn’t look right. Forever grateful. And if any was left out I apologize in advance.

Foster leaves to cherish his memory: Willie E. Foster, Jr. Gladys Horns, Angela Foster, and beloved companion Iryia Comer. Grandchildren: Tracy, (Corrie), Tony (Trish), Toi, Michael, Dominique, Andrea, and Imani. Great-Grandchildren: Taniecia, Taurean, Calvin (Trisa), Keesha (Kerry), Kevin, Jr. (Reanna), Klara, David, Brian, Brianna, Amiyah, Aaliyah, Nevaeh and Legacy. Six great- great grandchildren: Kellyn Davis, Kennedy Davis, Ava Williams, Lliana Haynes, Taelyn and June Horns and a host of Family members.

  5. I would like to extend my condolences to the entire, Foster family. I didn’t know Mr. Foster as long as most, but I know his daughter and two of his grandkids. The last time I saw him and touch his hands was during his late son in laws services. He was looking well and dressed to the nines like always. I can truly say to his daughter, Glady that I know how she feels, because I’ve stood where she is standing right now, because I too, loss my father. There will be a void in your heart for years to come, but to get through your tuff times just remember all the things you shared and it will make it a little easier.   6. I would always be looking for Deacon Willie E. Foster, whether he was on his post as a usher; and a greeter during any church citywide service! His face would light up, For The Usher’s Annual Citywide March!

  7. Deacon Willie Foster was one of the sharpest Usher’s I met at church back in the 80s and until this day. When I returned to Mount Sinai in 2012 he even remember where I used to sit back the. He was a great friend, a dedicated church member and he will be missed by many. Rest easy Deacon Foster until we meet at that great gettin up morning, Sergeant Martin.
