Lois Juanita Haywood Benjamin was born December 15, 1933 in San Antonio, Texas.
She was the daughter of Laura Ann Mitchell Haywood and Leo Haywood. She was joined in matrimony to Ernest Benjamin on August 25, 1958.
She attended and graduated from Phyllis Wheatley High School in 1952, in San Antonio. She attended college at Huston-Tillotson College, in Austin Texas. Lois later went to Chicago, Illinois, and attended St. Bernard's School of Nursing. Upon graduating in 1977, Lois then became an employee at St. Bernard’s School of Nursing. Lois and her family moved to Harvey, L.A. in 1978. She worked at West Jefferson Hospital as a surgical nurse, then as head nurse of surgery and later promoted to Nurse Administrator of the hospital. Lois also found time to become a Certified Massage Therapist. She loved to sew and took a course in making hats for a hobby after retirement.
Lois and her family joined Boyton U.M.C., while living in Harvey, L.A. Lois was very active in the church, where served as the president of the United Methodist Women, and Communion Stewards. She joined the Eastern Star Lodge Pride Gretna #86, Ruth Carter Auxiliary and Church Women United. She also belonged to Church Women United here in San Antonio.
Lois loved riding bicycles; she has ridden in several marathons. She also loved traveling to different countries. She loved working in her garden just so she would be able to give vegetables away to friends and those in need. Lois loved her children and grand children. Prior to her passing she was teaching her grandson how to make potato salad “Big Mom’s” way. Most of all she loved God and her neighbors.
Lois and her husband returned to San Antonio in 2005. She rejoined Jacob's Chapel U.M.C. and again became an active member of the church. Lois also became an Advisory Board member for the Community Echo’s Choir.
Lois is survived by her husband of fifty-nine years, Ret. Sgt. Major Ernest Benjamin, U.S.M.C., daughter LaTonya Benjamin Morel (James); three sons: Frank Benjamin (Jackie), Michael T. Benjamin(Harolyn), and Maurice Benjamin. Grandchildren: Brionna, Michael, Marcellous, Marshwn, Deanna, Anthony, Antonio, and Lacherley. Lois also leaves to cherish her memory, her sister, Janell Mellieon, great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors and church members.
She will always be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, who truly loved and believed in them. She will be remembered as a mother who was always available to hear and help in any way possible. Lois was a woman who did not fear life and made the most of what life gave her. Those who have ever ridden in a car with her whenever she got lost, she would just say we are going on a “site seeing tour.”
Though she will be dearly missed we know she is now home in the arms of our Heavenly Father.

I hope you draw great comfort from the following scriptures. We know when one losses a loved one it is only natural to ask, “Will they live again”? The Bible writer, Job asked the same question please read, Job 14:14-15. The scriptures also assures us that God is eager to resurrect your loved one, who is now sleeping in the grave. My condolences to the family and friends
