TSgt. William E. Woods, United States Air Force (Retired), peacefully entered eternal rest on December 24, 2025, at the age of 92, in San Antonio, Texas.
William was born on June 1, 1933, in Glasgow Missouri. A hardworking and dedicated man, he lived a life defined by service, faith, and commitment to those he loved. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, including honorable service during the Vietnam War, before retiring after years of faithful duty. A man of strong faith, William was a devoted member of Calvary Baptist Church, where he faithfully served as a Deacon. His spiritual leadership and steady presence were a blessing to his church family and community.
He met and married the love of his life, Nella Ree Woods, and together they shared a beautiful and devoted union until her passing in 1991. Though he had no biological children, William was a loving and devoted father to his stepson, James Williams, whom he cared for as his own.
William was also a proud member of the San Antonio Masonic Lodge #1, MWPH Grand Lodge of Texas, F.&A.M., and it’s Jurisdictions; Lone Star Consistory #113, AASR, PHA, SJ, 33rd degree; Shilo RAC #16, MEPHGC of Texas and it’s Jurisdictions; William H. Craig Council #4, MIPHGC R&SM of Texas and Jurisdiction; Alamo Commandery #7, Lone Star Grand Commandery of Texas, and it’s Jurisdictions, PHA; and Moussa Temple #106, AEAONMS, Inc., where he cherished the bonds of brotherhood and fellowship throughout his life. He was also a faithful member of Fred Brock American Legion Post #828.
William was preceded in death by the matriarch of the Butner Family, his grandmother: Amada Butner, his parents: Finell Butler and Luther E. Woods, his beloved wife, Nella Woods; three sisters: Jean Craig, Brenda Harris, and Jacqueline Butner; as well as one brother: John L. Butner.
He leaves to cherish his memory his Masonic family; his son, James Williams; granddaughter: Tracy Evette Jackson (Christopher), great-granddaughter: Nya Marie Jackson; his nephew: Donald Craig, his dear friends Burnell White, Kenneth Bankston, and Charles Bankston, along with many other relatives: Larry, Donald, Lorenzo, Patricia, Ava, James, Valerie, Larry, Rodney, Michael, and Brian, as well as many close friends whose lives were touched by his kindness, wisdom, and steadfast character.
William E. Woods will be remembered as a man of integrity, faith, service, and love—whose legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew him.
