Tommy Lee Amerson was born June 16, 1935 in Navasota, TX to parents Tommie G. and Mable Amerson. He was the
youngest of four siblings. They have all preceded him in death.
In 1938 the Amerson Family moved to San Antonio where they settled on the eastside of the city. He received his
formal education in the public schools of San Antonio and was a graduate of the Phillis Wheatley High School in 1953.
He furthered his education at St. Philip’s College and Texas Southern University.
In 1958 Tommy decided to serve his country and joined the U.S. Army for one tour of duty.
Tommy was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart Loretta Walker on March 22,1958. From this
union came four beautiful children, Mark Vincent, Pamela Yvette, Melvin Thomas and James Patrick.
Besides being a dutiful husband and father, he was faithful as a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church. He
served as Chair of the Administrative Board, Sunday School Superintendent, on the Finance Committee and Trustee
Board. He was loyal to the United Methodist Men and a member of the Usher Board for over 40 years.
Tommy retired from the San Antonio Housing Authority after managing Roseville Apartments and Sun Park Lane
Apartments.
He was devoted to the community and loved people. He was a member of the Denver Heights Neighborhood Association
and spent time as a volunteer in the local NAACP office. One of his favorite past times was playing dominos where
he could be found at the Senior Citizen Center. He loved to work in his lawn and sitting on the front porch.
Tommy leaves to cherish his memories his loving wife of 59 years, four children, four grandchildren, five great
grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Because of his love for community and people, Memorial gifts can be made to the St. Paul United Methodist
Church for Nurture Ministry Fund or the Outreach Ministry at the St. Paul United Methodist Church – Jones Chapel
