STANFORD L. DECKARD, II

November 6, 1942 ~ February 3, 2019

 

Stanford L. Deckard II was born in San Antonio, Texas; the oldest son of Doris and Stanford Deckard., on November 6, 1942.  Stanford was the first African American Student to attend Horace Mann Junior High School and was an honor roll student. He later attended Thomas Jefferson High School where he was a Member of the Honor Society all three years as well as editor of the yearbook and a member of the Senate.   Stan graduated in the top 10% of his graduation class.

 Stanford attended Texas Southern University in Houston Texas and later    transferred to St. Mary’s University of San Antonio earning a bachelor’s degree. Stanford later attained his master’s degree in Human Recourses from Parkland College of Baltimore MD.  Stanford was one of the charter members and pledged in the Epsilon Sigma Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. in 1964.  He led his fraternity’s local graduate chapter, Delta Rho Lambda, as president from 2002-2004 having served in various executive positions. He was an active member of his fraternity for 55 years.  Stanford retired from Federal Civil Service from the position of Director of Human Resources, Ft. Sam Houston in 2001.

 His involvement in community activities has been long term in various   dimensions as a true servant-leader. He has served as a board member of Miss Black San Antonio Scholarship Pageant. Stanford was a TV      Commentator while employed by KLRN.  He served as a board member of the Witte Museum from 1986- 1991. He served as chairman of the New Braunfels Bridge-Martin Luther King Banner Committee.  Stanford was also an active participant in the family businesses.

 He was a long standing member of 2nd Baptist Church since 1986.  He was    preceded in death by his sister Debra, father, Stanford Sr. and his mother. He is survived by his sister Cassandra (Bruce Allen) nephew Christopher Allen, wife Nicole, great niece  Olivia, great nephews Killian and Zachary, niece Angela Koval and husband Kris Koval as well as a host of cousins and friends.

  5. Stanford and I were friends and classmates in Horace Mann Junior High School. For the last several years I have searched for a county with him. I am saddened by our loss of a good man♥️ I wish his family the best❣️
