Saloma L. Duffey, 93, of Luling, Texas, passed away on September, 26, 2020 in Seguin, Texas.
Saloma was born in Luling, Texas to Lonnie and Willie Edna Brown on April 1, 1927. She attended Phyllis Wheatley High School. January 2, 1952 she married Alvin Duffey Jr., USAF serviceman, from Luther, Oklahoma. As a military spouse for 21 years, she and Alvin counted Okinawa, Japan, and Washington, D.C. among their favorite stations. After Alvin’s retirement from the Air Force in 1965, they moved back to San Antonio where she worked as a Library Secretary for the San Antonio Independent School District. She was a member of New Light Baptist Church, where she served faithfully on the usher board, in women’s auxiliaries, and as a Women’s Day Leader. Since April, 1997, she continued in her walk of faith at New Covenant Baptist Church. “Meemaw” was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.
Mrs. Duffey was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin Duffey Jr., her son, Larry B. Duffey, and her brothers Franklin Brown, Otis Brown, and Robert V. Brown.
Mrs. Duffey is survived by her son and his wife, Alvin & Dolores Duffey; her brother, Ireland Brown and his wife Bertha; her sister, Juanita Stimpson; her grandson, Alex Jones-Duffey and his wife Gillian, her granddaughter, Janet Jones-Duffey; her great grandsons Ashton Jones-Duffey, and Owen Jones-Duffey, her nieces, Irelanette Broadnax, Cynthia Brown, Patricia Brown, Janice Allen, Deborah Brown, Janet Givens, Lisa White, Gina Bibby, and nephew, Charles Bibby.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, and Disabled American Veterans.
The family of Saloma Duffey wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Visiting Angels, Guadalupe Regional Hospice, and Drs. Bauman, Nolan, Remo, and White. The family would also like to thank her church family, and many, friends and loved ones who stayed in touch and supported her in her home going.
