Resided in: San Antonio, Texas

A loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Ruby Carol Duke Hemanes entered eternal rest on September 18, 2025, at the age of 68. She was born on January 2, 1957, in San Antonio, Texas, to Delbert Meadors and Ruby Duke, their only child.

She lived a life full of love, family, and faith. Known for her cooking, she made the best peach cobbler on the planet, and her kitchen was always a place of joy and comfort. Family was dear to her heart, and she always looked forward to the next holiday or family gathering. She loved music—especially the timeless sounds of Frankie Beverly & Maze, the blues, and other oldies. She also enjoyed fishing, dressing stylishly, and was affectionately known as the family’s “fashionista.”

She married the love of her life, Dannie Hemanes, and together they shared a blissful 25-year union. She was a natural-born leader, a devoted member of The Church Without Walls in Houston, Texas under the direction of Dr. Ralph Douglas West, and she proudly started her own chapter of the Red Hatters. For 16 years, she served as an Insurance Representative at Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston, Texas, where her compassion and leadership touched many lives. To all who knew her, she was “mom to everyone.”

She leaves to cherish her memory, her beloved children: Rodney Baker, Natasha Baker, Daphne Edwards, Vincent Hines Jr., Terrance Hines (Alison), and Derrick Hines; 16 grandchildren: Tiana Baker, Tre’jean Baker, Ayanna Newkirk, Quincy Baker I, Myles Baker, Jade Baker, Asia Edwards, Rayne Jones, Chasity Williams, Paris Barber, Jaylon Baker, Destiny Baker, Cordae Lowe, Quincy Baker II, Kennedy Hines, and Olivia Hines—all of whom affectionately called her “Granny”; and 8 great-grandchildren: Royale Bradley, E’lani Sabbath, Emeri Sabbath, Errolynn Sabbath, Marley Baker, Neriah Jackson, Kyra Durant, Ezryn Sabbath, and Baby Baker on the way—all of whom lovingly called her “Gi-Gi,” her brother: Delbert Meador Jr. (Carolyn). She also leaves behind cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, other close relatives, and countless friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Delbert Meadors and Ruby Duke, her precious granddaughter, Arianna Baker, her sister: Vera Robinson, and her nephews: Mark Robinson and Michael Harris.

Her memory will forever live on in the hearts of her family and friends, who will continue to celebrate her love, her spirit, and the joy she brought to every life she touched.
