Robert Louis Spencer

Robert Louis Spencer, Sr was born March 9, 1930 to Ernest Spencer and Rose Ada Markham Spencer in Wesson, MS. He attended school in Lincoln and Copiah County Mississippi.

After school he enlisted in the Army and served for several years. He married his childhood sweetheart Dorothy Lee Bryant. There were five children born to this union, Bettye, Brenda, Robert Jr, Ronald and Reginald.

Robert and family relocated to Mobile, Alabama where Robert found employment with Brookley Air Force Base as a civilian employee. In 1965 the family relocated to San Antonio, Texas, where Robert worked at Kelley Air Force Base until he retired.

Robert was called to the ministry and pastored the Rose of Sharon Baptist Church here in San Antonio. After retirement he remarried and returned to his family land in Wesson, Mississippi.

While in Mississippi Robert went to Theology school and was ordained an Elder in the AME church. He served there until his health began to fail and his children brought him back to San Antonio in 2008. He became a member of Greater Ball Tabernacle AME.

Robert was preceded in death by his father Ernest Spencer, his mother Rose Ada Markham Spencer, brothers Arthur Spencer, Ivan Spencer, Herbert Spencer, Percy Spencer, Ernest Spencer and Othelda Spencer. A sister Eunice Spencer, his daughter Bettye Spencer Gant, son Reginald Demetrius Spencer and wife Cleo Spencer.

Robert leaves to cherish his memory, children Brenda Spencer McKinney(Michael) Schertz, TX, Robert L Spencer, Jr San Antonio, TX, Ronald D. Spencer (Laura) San Antonio, TX The mother of his children Dorothy Bryant Spencer San Antonio, TX. Sister Mary Spencer Greer of Chicago, IL and brother John Spencer of Columbus, OH. Grandchildren Brian Gant (Abril) Barrington, IL, Eboni Henry Dallas, TX, Eric Gant Louisville, KY, Kemba Gant Marietta, GA, Jessica Spencer San Antonio, TX, and Nicole Spears San Antonio, TX. Eight Great grandchildren and a host of family and friends.
