MONICA SMITH

Monica Smith was the third of four children born to Donald and Patricia Smith on November 16, 1958, in Lincoln Park, Michigan. Monica was preceded in death by her husband Barton Smith, Sr., her parents Patricia and Donald Smith, and step-father Kit E. Floyd Sr. Monica attended public schools in Detroit, MI, she attended Cass Technical High School and Central High School, graduating in 1976 and enjoyed a successful career in sales and entertainment. 

Monica’s favorite artist was Jill Scott and Hidden Beach.  She greatly enjoyed listening to all of their work. Monica’s favorite pastime was a great game of Chess, Poker, Tunk and Bid Whist with friends. Her joy was cooking, hosting, entertaining, and making others laugh. Her favorite color was red, and she loved traveling around the country, partying with friends, eating good food and drink and appreciating life to the fullest. Monica had the gift of gab and could sell anything, and was known for being one of the best cooks around.

Monica spent over 30 years in the Carnival Industry where she flourished and prospered, using her sales skills and personality to become one of the best in the Industry.

Monica’s soul was summoned home on the evening of March 14th, 2022. Monica leaves a full family to cherish her memories. Monica is survived by her son Barton Smith Jr., her sisters Rowena and Donalda Smith, her brothers Arlon Smith; Kit Floyd Jr., her stepchildren Desiree Williams, Candace Middleton, and her grandchildren Giovani White & Imani White, La’Asia & Naia Badgett, Caitlynn McGee, Terence, Sierra, and Saint Williams. She is survived by one niece, Marcella Croom, and many cousins, in California and Detroit, two uncles, two aunts and many loved ones. Her legacy, her laugh, her memory, and charm will forever be cherished by all who loved her.
