Monica Dara Moore was born on April 6, 1960, in St. Louis, Missouri, to Beverly Jones and the late Douglas Jackson. She grew up in St. Louis, where she excelled academically and was an active member of the Birds of Paradise Drill Team and Bugle Drum Corps at Mercy Catholic High School, graduating with the class of 1978.
In 1975, Monica met the love of her life, the late Wayne Tipton of St. Louis, Missouri. The two married on December 23, 1980, embarking on a lifelong journey together. Shortly after their marriage, Wayne enlisted in the United States Army, and Monica faithfully served alongside him as his greatest supporter throughout his 20 years, 10 months, and 31 days of distinguished military service. Together, they traveled the world, raised a family, and created a life rooted in love and devotion. Wayne remained by her side until his passing on January 30, 2021.
To their union, two children were born: Wayne Anthony and Krystal Dara. Monica was a deeply devoted mother, later becoming a proud and doting grandmother to Matthew, Brandon, Alexander, and Amaya Tipton.
As a military spouse, Monica adapted to life on the move, traveling to numerous bases, including the Pentagon, NATO Headquarters in Brussels, Belgium, and the Berlin Army Base in Germany. She was known for her impeccable taste in decorating and her unforgettable, mouthwatering cooking—gifts that brought warmth and joy to every home she created and every person she welcomed into it.
Monica also had a God-given gift for singing. No matter where they traveled, she lifted her voice in song, and Wayne was always there at the edge of the stage, ready to welcome her with love and pride when she finished belting out powerful ballads.
Above all, Monica lived her life as a woman of faith. She was baptized in Jesus’ name, saved, and filled with the Holy Ghost, walking humbly and faithfully with the Lord. As a member of Pleasant Green Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Dr. Henry William Berry, Jr., she served in the choir and found her spiritual foundation in Christ—a foundation that carried her throughout her life’s journey.
Monica was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Wayne Tipton. She leaves to cherish her memory, two children, Wayne Anthony and Krystal Dara; her four grandchildren, Matthew, Brandon, Alexander, and Amaya Tipton; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, cousins, friends, and colleagues who will forever carry her in their hearts.
Monica — a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, and faithful servant of the Lord, transitioned peacefully to her eternal home, leaving behind a legacy of love, strength, and grace. Monica’s life was a beautiful reflection of faith, love, and service. Though she will be deeply missed, her legacy will continue to live on through all who knew and loved her.
