Melvin J. Monet Sr. was born to the union of Ms. Phyliss R. King and Mr. Clarence J. Monet Sr. in the "The Big Easy" of New Orleans, Louisiana, January 5,1973. He grew up with his brothers Clarence "Clay", Charles "Barlow", and Marvin" Snook" Monet. Melvin spent a lot of time with his aunt, Mona Lisa Washington Pellerin among other family as he matriculated in his early educational years. Melvin attended Andrew J. Bell Junior High and later Joseph S. Clarke Senior High school, where he played his beloved baritone and other brass instruments in the band. In addition, Melvin competed in many sports to include: football, track, swimming, and gymnastics throughout his secondary educational years. Upon graduation from high school, he attend a small college in Northeastern Oklahoma (NEO A&M College) on a football scholarship. There at NEO, Melvin and his team won the National championship title in 1991. Melvin later transferred to Missouri Southern State University where he studied in the School of Education and Criminal Justice. Not only was Melvin an excellent athlete, he was also committed to fostering friendships, community and family.
On May 8,1999, Melvin was joined in holy matrimony to Nicole Rochelle Benford. Two children were born from this union, Melanie and Melvin Jr. Together they served and did whatever they could to help educate students in San Antonio, Texas. They also served as forerunner Sunday teachers of the E. Thurman Walker Young Adult Memorial Sunday School Class.
Melvin's ministries included the Antioch Youth Drill Team, New Psalm Choir, Antioch Ambassadors, and Clara Byars Sunday Church School Class. Outside of church, Melvin coached for the Highland Rockets football team for many years and the San Antonio, Heat Track Club. Melvin's full time position as a teacher and Dean of Discipline has allowed Melvin to mentor and guide many students at the School of Excellence Charter School and other schools for many years. Outside of work, Melvin played a vital role in his fraternity, Phi Beta Sigma and a Master Mason of the Masonic Lodge.
Above all, Melvin loved his wife (Nicole) and three children (Olivia, Melanie, and MJ). He especially was proud of Olivia's decision to join the United States Air Force, recent marriage to Mike Billups and the overall young lady she was becoming. Melvin also doted on Melanie's intellectual, athletic and her driven spirit while holding his only son,
