February 26, 1938 ~ December 24, 2022

On Saturday, December 24, 2022, Melvin Bateman peacefully transcended from this life on earth to a glorious eternal life. Melvin was born on February 26, 1938, in Gonzales County, Ottine, Texas to Clem and Allie Bateman. Melvin was the eighth child born to this union. Melvin was baptized at an early age at Unity Baptist Church in Seguin, TX under the stewardship of Rev. J. P. Carley. He developed a heart of compassion and love at an early age. For which his loving and cheering spirit was present through his bright smile. He never met a stranger. Melvin attended Ball High School in Seguin, TX. During his younger years while at Ball High, Melvin was an amazing athlete. He played many sports: basketball, football, baseball, track, and golf. The main sports he loved were football and basketball, where he and his teammates carried their teams to winning championships. He was a proud “Dragon”! After graduating from Ball High School, he moved to San Antonio, TX, where he started his own successful custodial company called Limpio Industries. He was contracted by Kelly Air Force Base for many years. He employed many people. If he had, you had. His compassion for others and kindness is as the scripture reads “Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you” Ephesians 4:32 On November 10, 1975, Melvin was joined in marriage to the apple of his eye Betty. They recently celebrated 47 years of marriage. Melvin was a devoted father to his sons Ricky and Dennis Haley. 1. Q: What was one of your favorite qualities of Melvin?

A: Uncle Melvin had a big and caring heart. If you had a need he would help you. He was a wonderful Uncle, husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He loved doing for others. Such a great giving spirit. He may be gone from our sight, but never from our hearts. May God bless the family.

  2. Although our hearts are heavy we know that God was ready for you to come home. Uncle Melvin you will be missed. The kindness and compassion you gave to others will never be forgotten. Love your niece Anita aka your Oprah as you called me.🙏❤️
