Mary was born on February 2, 1943 in Tuskegee, Alabama to Joseph and Ollie Mae Tatum. She attended George Washington Carver Elementary and Tuskegee Institute High School. After graduating from high school, she and her sister Josie moved to San Antonio, Texas to live with their Aunt.
She attended and graduated from St. Phillips College with her Licensed Vocational Nursing (LVN) degree. She also attended San Antonio College for her Associate Degree in Nursing. She worked at Santa Rosa Children Hospital for 20 years. She also work for Britex Agency as a Flight Nurse and the Bexar County Jail as a Treatment Room Nurse.
She married John Smith and to that union a son was born Anthony Smith.
Mary’s favorite hobbies was fishing on the coast, watching professional sports, horse racing, dancing, dominoes and playing cards.
Those left to cherish her memories is her husband John Smith and son Anthony Smith. Her Sisters, Joanne Tatum Hall (Moorestown, NJ), Brenda Burton (New Brunswick, NJ), Augustine Isaderosa (Burlington, NJ) and Carol Hodge (Clayton, DE). Her niece Karen Rochester and her nephew Rodney Rochester. She also leaves numerous great nieces, great nephews, cousins and friends.
