Marsell Todd Sr., a devoted husband, father, veteran, and man of unwavering faith, passed away peacefully on February 25, 2026, surrounded by his loved ones. Born on December 8, 1930, in La Vernia, Texas, he lived a long and meaningful life marked by hard work, loyalty, humor, and deep commitment to his family and his faith.

Marsell loved the Lord, and throughout much of his life he was a faithful member of Rising Star Baptist Church.

A proud veteran of the United States Army, Marsell traveled throughout Europe during his service before eventually settling in San Antonio, Texas. The discipline and sense of duty he gained in the military stayed with him throughout his life. A dedicated worker, he began laboring at an early age and later spent more than 20 years as a veterinarian technician.

Yet Marsell’s life was never defined by work alone. Those who truly knew him understood his love for life’s simple joys. He loved music and carried dance moves that could rival James Brown. He often shared stories of dancing on street corners for dimes as a young boy—memories that brought laughter and captured his spirit perfectly. After a long day, he cherished a cold Lone Star beer, his “Saturday Night Special” meal, pig feet, and a good Western on the television. Fiercely protective and naturally fearless, Marsell never backed down from a fight and stood firmly as the defender of his home and family.

On August 21, 1954, Marsell married the love of his life, Annette Todd. Together, they built a strong, joyful union that endured through the decades and blessed them with eleven children.

Marsell was preceded in death by his loving wife, Annette L. Todd; his son, Marsell Todd Jr.; his son‑in‑law, Hayden Morris; his grandson, Alfred Mitchell Jr.; his great‑grandson, Adrian Todd; his parents, Central Todd Sr. and Lottie B. Todd; his sisters, Bessie Herbert and Virgie Rogers; and his brothers, Dr. Clinton Todd Sr., Walter Todd, Charles Todd Sr., Rev. Central Todd Jr., Deacon Bobbie Todd, Rev. Alvoid Todd Jr., and David Todd.
He leaves to cherish his memory two sisters, Erma Jo Harris and Mercer Butler; one brother, Winslow Todd; six daughters, Jeanette Morris, Dolly Godley, Frances Simien, JoBeth Madrigal, Naomi Mitchell, and Patricia Pierce; and four sons, Terry Todd, Edward Todd, Clinton Todd Sr., and Dorsey Todd. Marsell was blessed to witness the growth of his beautiful and extensive family and was fortunate enough to meet 30 grandchildren, 49 great‑grandchildren, and 3 great‑great‑grandchildren. He was also overjoyed to know that 4 more great‑great‑grandchildren are on the way.
He is further survived by a host of extended family members and friends who will forever carry his spirit in their hearts.

Marsell lived fully, loved deeply, and protected fiercely. His legacy endures in the generations he nurtured and the many lives he touched. He will be profoundly missed.
