MABEL MARTIN BRECKENRIDGE

March 4, 1932 ~ September 8, 2021

 

Mabel (Mae) Martin Breckenridge – wife, mother, Mae-Ma, was one of six children born to William and Bertha Martin on March 4, 1932 in Harlem, New York. She was raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and graduated from Schenley High School, where her favorite subject was business law. She grew up attending Miller Street Church of God in Christ (COGIC) in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania under the guidance of Bishop Gordon Vaughn. At Miller Street COGIC she accepted the Lord as Savior and was baptized at an early age. In 1954, after meeting and marrying the love of her life, Nathaniel D. Breckenridge (Nat), Mae traveled all over the world as an Air Force wife. In 1974, she and Nat settled in San Antonio, Texas with their four children. She was a champion bowler, winning many accolades with her team in local and national bowling tournaments. Mae also loved dancing, singing, creating floral arrangements, shopping, and having fun with her friends, children and grandchildren. She was a lifelong member of Grace First Baptist Church of San Antonio, Texas under the guidance of Reverend Linwood F. Russ and Reverend Allen M. Ford.

Mae transitioned to Heaven on September 8, 2021, leaving a living legacy to cherish her memory which includes her children: Keith William Breckenridge (Nela); Sharon Breckenridge Thomas (Bryan); and Michelle Breckenridge Mitchell (Mark). She is also survived by one sister Thelma Martin Cox of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; bother/sister-in-law John and June Breckenridge of Dermott, Arkansas; fourteen grandchildren: Jason Garner (Stephanie), Brittany Garner, Francis Garner (Kerry), Dominique Breckenridge Wise, Juanthaniel Breckenridge, Sharise Linson (Damian), Jordan Thomas, Jonathan Thomas, Whittney Mitchell Pratt (Benjamin), Mark Mitchell, Jr., Sierra Mitchell Broome (La Jeric), Llandre Mitchell, Dionicia Mitchell, Norelle Mitchell; twenty great grandchildren; and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins throughout the United States.

She was preceded in death by her parents William Martin and Bertha Corrillus Martin; her parents-in-law Robert Magruder Breckenridge and Pellie Brown Breckenridge; her husband Nathaniel Deforrest Breckenridge; brother William Martin, Jr.; sisters Dorthey Lee Martin, Vivian Martin, Christine Martin; brothers-in-law: Jasper C. Banks, Sr., Francis Kanuso Breckenridge, McKinley Breckenridge, Earl Breckenridge; sisters-in-law: Mary Breckenridge Banks, Mary Woodfolk Breckenridge; grandsons: Marcus Mitchell, Keith Breckenridge Wise; granddaughters: Tiara Mitchell, Natasha Mitchell; and her eldest daughter Natalie Janet Breckenridge Garner.

The family would like to thank Grace First Baptist Church of San Antonio, Embrace Hospice Care, Redbridge Manor and many friends who consistently showed care and support during Mom’s evening years
