The first time I attended Carter Hall’s evening worship service at Oakwood College, there was Lovey Verdun–the dean. She was clean, attractive, conservatively dressed, tall, slim, stately, and serious; she had a no-nonsense demeanor. My interactions with her through the years enabled me to see a warm, compassionate, and helpful person as well. Once when I was across campus typing a paper and knew that curfew was approaching, I called her and requested more time. To my surprise, she granted it to me. On another occasion, I went to her because someone was stalking me. After listening, she told me what she would do for me, and it worked; hence, she was a woman of wisdom. I also had the opportunity of working for her and felt honored that she had approached me about the job. Dean Verdun, a Christian staple at Oakwood, made a difference in my life and many other lives, so I expect to see her again in the earth-made-new! Halleluia!
