LORENZO BENNETT, JR.

September 17, 1958 ~ May 20, 2019

Lorenzo Bennett, Jr. was born September 17, 1958 in Hampton, Virginia at a military hospital on Langley Air Force Base. He was the first son of Lorenzo Bennett Sr. and Elnora Worsley Bennett. Reginald Eugene Bennett and John Fitzgerald Bennett followed. The United States Air Force brought the Bennett family to San Antonio, Texas and has become home.

Lorenzo Jr. met his wife Doris Nickelson Bennett in San Antonio. They were married on March 20,1999. Family was extremely important to Lorenzo and he is affectionately known as “Pa Pa” by Tiffany, Araceli, and Jasmine, Edward Charles Adams III and Kayla Adams. He was loved as their father by Jasmine Adams, Edward Charles Adams II -Mann and Riley Adams and Stephanie Gipson Smith.

*To a certain select and cherished group of classmates he was affectionately known as “Elf”!

Lorenzo followed in his father’s footsteps and enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he proudly served for four years. Afterwards, he obtained a CDL license and traveled from coast to coast and throughout Texas. No matter how far he traveled from home, Lorenzo always found time check on his family. Somehow along those long winding roads, he managed to run into old friends from home and they laughed and talked about “home” and “family”.

He and his lovely wife Doris settled in Converse, Texas.

“Lo”, as my brother and I call him, was a man with a soul far greater than his physical stature. With his unique laugh and his mischievous grin, Lo never met a stranger and he gave his all to his family and friends.  Big brother is not an easy title to carry and Lo was not perfect but the memories that we shared with him are as good as any sibling could ever hope for – Well done Big brother!

  11. I went to High School with Lorenzo, I remember being so proud of him as a star Black quarterback for our school. His father took me on a recruiting trip to Southwest Texas State University for basketball. He took my sister to the prom or homecoming one year. I remember him being mild mannered as was his brother Reggie. God bless you Lorenzo and RIP.
