LAWRENCE SHERWOOD MALLETT

November 14, 1943 ~ November 13, 2024

LAWRENCE SHERWOOD MALLETT, was in the Bronx, New York to his parents, Doris Jones and Clerence M. Mallett and raised in Annapolis and Baltimore, Maryland, he was drafted in 1966 for the Vietnam War. Upon his return home, he chose to enlist in the US Army, embarking on a remarkable journey that would shape his life.

A proud alum of Wiley B. Bates High School in Baltimore, Md, class of 1961 where he developed a lifelong passion for golf, which began when he worked as a golf caddy. His friends and fellow golfers affectionately knew him as "Hammer Man" – a nickname that reflected not only his impressive skills on the golf course but also his staunch determination and strength in life. He loved golf almost as much as he loved the camaraderie of his golf brothers, with whom he shared countless memories and laughter.

In addition to his love for golf, he had a passion for cars that spanned a lifetime. From his first car, a 1965 Shelby Mustang, to his last, he took immense pride in maintaining and keeping his vehicles in pristine condition. Through dedicated study at trade school, he developed exceptional mechanical skills, eventually becoming a master car mechanic. He was also a major fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers NFL team!

He rekindled his devotion to the Lord, finding solace and joy in attending Sunday services with a heart full of love and enthusiasm. He eagerly looked forward to Sundays, and the beautiful choir songs touched his heart in a deeply meaningful way. Even on days when he wasn't feeling his best, his commitment to his faith remained strong, and he still made it a priority to attend Sunday services, finding comfort and strength in the presence of his God and the worship."

As a two-time Vietnam War veteran, he distinguished himself with exceptional bravery, earning a Bronze Star for his heroic achievement in Vietnam. Upon his return from Vietnam, he continued to serve in the US Army until 1990, rising to the highest enlisted rank of Command Sergeant Major. His strong leadership skills, take-charge attitude, and common sense earned him a reputation as a man who could get things done. Few achieve the esteemed rank of Command Sergeant Major, a testament to his dedication and perseverance.

He is survived by his beloved wife of over 59 years, Maria C Mallett, whom he met and married while stationed in Munich, Germany. Their love story is a special one, with German being the common language that brought them together from various parts of the world. They traveled extensively, living life to the fullest, and their love continued to flourish through the years. Together, they raised four children; daughters: Maria Johnson and Michelle Mallett; sons: Bernardo Mallet and Lawrence Mallet Jr. who preceded him in death. Each one unique and dearly loved.

While he may be gone, his legacy lives on through the countless lives he touched, the memories he created, and the love he shared with his family and friends. He is survived by his beloved

wife, his children, Grandchildren: Earl Brown, Dominique Mallett, Breanna Barrows, Terrell Mallett, Danae Joyner, Kira Johnson and Lawrence and Christian Burns. Nine great grandkids; brother, Keith Mallett and sisters: Sandra Simms and Rene Mallet who preceded him in death. Also, a host of relatives (in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, and forever brothers).

He passed away on 13 November 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love, service, and adventure.

His family, friends, Military and golf brothers will deeply miss him, but they will continue to cherish the memories of his remarkable life, his infectious enthusiasm for golf and cars, and the unwavering dedication he showed to his country and his loved ones. His life was a testament to the power of perseverance, hard work, and the unbreakable bonds of love and friendship.

Rest in peace, Command Sergeant Major, "Hammer Man.
