LAURA J. BROWN

September 8, 1937 ~ August 12, 2019

Laura ]o (Johnson) Brown was born on September 8, 1937 in Gonzales, Texas to the late Dewitt and Lois (McClure) Johnson. Laura accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age at Providence Baptist Church, Gonzales, Texas.

After her four children were school-aged she began her career receiving a Medical Assistant Certificate from St. Phillips College and was employed at Baptist Memorial Hospital as a nursing assistant and health unit clerk. She retired from the hospital and began a career in early childhood education at Bethel

United Methodist Church Daycare. After working many years with children, she decided to advance her education and received a theology degree. She has been privileged to share her ministry gifts with many throughout the city of San Antonio by sharing the gospel at various functions. She practiced dependence on God in every circumstance, love for His word, concern for others above self, and an indomitable spirit.

As a member of St. Paul Baptist Church, she served faithfully. Throughout her membership, she led the Youth Ministry and Courtesy Committee. She served as Sunday School superintendent, teacher, and Women's Chorus member. Also. Laura served with the Deacon Wives Ministry and as the church treasurer. She was an active member of the Christian Fellowship Baptist District Association (CFDBA).

She was also a member of the Edwards Alumni Association helping to foster moral, spiritual, and financial support for the continued growth of Edwards High School, Gonzales, Texas.

Laura was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, three sisters, and her husband of 50 years, Waymond Brown, and two step sons.

 

Laura Brown leaves to cherish her memory: three sons, Kim A. Johnson, Glenn Johnson, Rodney Brown, one daughter, Anita Miles (Terry), one stepdaughter, Jeanette Brown, and one stepson, Darnell Brown (Cynthia), San Bernardino, California; two step-daughter in laws, Nell Brown and Marva Brown, San Bernardino, California; three sisters, Juanita Washington, San Antonio, Texas; Elizabeth Steemer, Gonzales, Texas; Mary Allen (A.B.), Wharton, Texas; grandsons, Jarrious [ohnson, Mark Latson,Glenn Johnson II, Kaleb johnson, Terry Miles, [r: granddaughters, Kimberly Johnson, Kimmone Malloy, Brianna Tyner, and Alexis Miles; great-grandchildren, [aelen Coghill, Naomi Prichett, JacobSessoms, Cameron Rodgers, Xavier Latson and Olivia Johnson; goddaughter, Kashea Applewhite, Cleveland, Ohio and a host of relatives and friends.
