Joyce Elaine Robinson was born to Daisy and Eugene Anderson on September 15,1954 in Alexandria, Louisiana. Joyce attended Wichita Public Schools and graduated from Wichita East High School in 1972. She attended Butler County Community College and Emporia State University where she graduated in 1978 with a degree in Home Economics. Joyce went on to attain her Masters of Science Degree from Our Lady of the Lake University. Joyce’s passion and life’s calling was educating youth. She faithfully taught Middle School Science for 22 years in the Northeast Independent School District of San Antonio, Texas and was blessed to retire from teaching at Jackson Middle School in 2016.
Joyce Elaine Robinson married her college sweetheart, Gary L. Robinson, on October 27, 1979 in Wichita, Kansas. Their union was blessed with two sons, Gary Robinson II and JaRon Robinson. Throughout their 44 years of marriage, Joyce and Gary built a life centered on love, faith and family, creating a strong foundation for their children and grandchildren. Their relationship was marked by mutual respect, shared values, and a commitment to their family and community. Joyce’s dedication to her role as a wife, mother, and grandmother was a reflection of the deep love she and Gary shared over the decades.
Joyce accepted Christ in 1978 and was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Wichita, Kansas. She later joined Mt. Vernon Missionary Baptist Church in Kansas City, Missouri where she served faithfully until relocating to San Antonio, TX in 1993. There, she, her husband, and sons united with Antioch Missionary Baptist Church in 1994 under the leadership of Pastor E. Thurman Walker. Joyce became an active and dedicated member of the Usher Board and loved singing with her Antioch Sisters in the Women’s Choir.
Joyce was an esteemed and dedicated member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. She and her line sisters were initiated in the Wichita Alumnae Chapter on April 29, 1989. Joyce remained an active, financial member until her illness in 2021 prevented her from participating in person; she insisted she would remain financially active regardless of her health restraints.
Everyone who met Joyce, knew she had a beautiful smile on her face at all times, but her biggest joy was spending time with her children and beautiful grandchildren who affectionately called her “Nana”. Joyce Robinson was a woman of immense love and dedication, a cornerstone in the lives of her family and friends. She was known for her infectious energy and passion for racquetball, often gathering her loved ones for friendly yet competitive matches that always ended in laughter. Joyce cherished spending summer breaks with her children, particularly enjoying the excitement of movie premieres. These moments became a beloved tradition, filled with laughter, popcorn, and the joy of shared stories on the big screen. Family was the heart of Joyce’s world. She was a devoted mother and grandmother who found profound joy in nurturing her relationships with her children and grandbabies. Her home was always open, especially during the holidays, where she created magical memories filled with love, good food, and the comfort of being surrounded by those she loved most. Joyce’s unwavering presence and her ability to bring people together were gifts that will be deeply missed but forever remembered. Her legacy lives on in the laughter, love, and countless beautiful memories she leaves behind.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents Daisy B. and Eugene C. Anderson. She leaves to cherish her memory her loving and dedicated husband of 45 years Gary “G-ROB” Robinson I, sons, Gary Robinson II (Tanaya) and JaRon Robinson (Jazzmun), her loving grandchildren Kennady, Karter, Jacob, and Josiah all of Houston, Texas, her siblings Deborah Carter in Dallas, Texas, Sharon Wilson-Goodwin in Tampa, Florida, Eugene Anderson in Dallas, Texas, Goddaughter Raina Nicole Jackson and a host of loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.
