JOSEPH K. HILLYER

December 10, 1940 ~ March 12, 2021

J Joseph K. Hillyer, Jr. was born on December 10, 1940, in San Antonio, Texas, to Joseph K Hillyer, Sr. and Christine Wren Hillyer. He attended Phillis Wheatley High School and graduated from Saint Peter Claver High School, both in San Antonio, Texas. He is preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Addie Virginia Perryman.

Joseph retired from the City of San Antonio Public Library. He accepted Christ at an early age. Joseph was a member of Bethel A.M.E Church, where he joined in Holv Matrimony to Thelma J. Fuery Hillyer. Later in life, he joined New Covenant Baptist Church, where he was a devoted member. He was a member of the Alamo City Golf Association.

Joseph leaves to cherish his memory one son, Dereck K. Hillyer Sr. (Eliza), one daughter, Donna F. Hillyer, one sister Allie Faye Hillyer Smith of Los Angeles, California, one brother, Mohammed Sharif of San Antonio, Texas; three grandchildren: Dereck K. Hillyer II (Jasmine), Vincent K. Hillyer (Ashley), and Tyler P'lar Doleman; and four great[1]grandchildren: Vincent J. Hillyer, Zoe' B. Hillyer, Dakota K. Hillyer, and Kvle C. Hillyer; and many nephews, nieces, cousins, and other

  1. “Daddy Joe”has he was affectionately called by his 3 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren was always acknowledging our birthdays and special days by taking time and effort to mail each one of us a loving card signed with his excellent penmanship.
    Never short on compliments, and had a candy bowl full when you paid him a visit. Will be missed, but not forgotten! Love you!
