JORDAN WINTERS, JR.

October 5, 1951 ~ March 23, 2025

 

Jordan Winters Jr. was born October 5, 1951, in Pleasanton, Texas. He was the second child born to Jordan Winters, Sr. and Evelyn Marie (Jackson) Winters.

He was baptized at Macedonia Baptist Church in Jourdanton, Texas at a young age before moving to San Antonio. There, he became a member of Mt. Gilead Baptist Church and would return to Mt. Gilead later in life before moving his membership to Antioch Baptist Church. He loved to sing and was a member of a few gospel quartets, most notably The Amazing Spiritualaires & The Texas Jubilaires.

He also loved sports. He played football and basketball at Sam Houston High School where he graduated from in 1970. He joined the Air Force after high school where he stayed active in sports. Later in life, he coached both football and basketball for the Highland Hawks organization and then his own basketball team. He really enjoyed coaching and investing into the many young men lives through sports. Teaching them more than the game but about life as well and giving them an outlet other than the streets. He stayed connected to the games by becoming a referee with the Texas Association of Sports Officials (TASO) San Antonio Chapter

He married the love of his life, Darcy Claire Jackson, on July 25, 1970. To this union two sons were born: Timothy James Winters and Joseph Paul Winters. They were married 46 years.

On March 23, 2025, around sunrise, he passed away quietly in his sleep. Jordan was preceded in death by Jordan Winters Sr. (Father), Evelyn Marie Winters (Mother), Darcy Claire Winters (Wife), Cathy Ann (Sister), Melanie (Sister), Marshall (Brother).

He is survived by Sons: Timothy Winters(Michelle) and Joseph Winters(Sharon), Brothers: Edward Winters(Joyce) and Kevin Winters(Kathy), Sisters: Theresa Thompson(Richard), Vanessa Fears(Robert) and Remethia Little, Sisters-in-law: Anita Herndon and Yolanda Herndon, Brother-in-law: Timothy Wilson, Grandchildren: T’auna Winters, Timothy Winters II, Alexandra Clement(Devin), Gabriella Winters, Arianna Winters, Matthew Winters, Great Grandchild Calla Ori Harris. And a host of nephews, nieces and other dear relatives and friends.

  3. I was blessed and honored to have known Jordan through our mutual interest in officiating football. As great as he was as an official and communicator with players, he was an even better man. His calm, steady demeanor was a reassuring presence. Jordan was a wonderful human, gone far too soon.
