A loving mother, grandmother, aunt and friend, Ida Mae Hodges went to be with the Lord on June 10, 2023, in San Antonio, Texas. She was born on July 10, 1939, in Blue Mountain, Mississippi. Ida was the youngest of her siblings. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, and one grandson Tony Anthony Battle. Ida accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of St. Philip’s Episcopal Church. She had the heart of a servant, supported her church spiritually and financially, and was an active member in many church ministries. If you became ill or had any need you could depend on Ida for a visit, a card and even to provide one with a meal. Ida was diligent in providing the flowers for the church alter weekly.
Ida was educated in the Mississippi school system. Upon completion of high school Ida married and traveled extensively. During this time two children were born. Following here military experience she and her two children settled in San Antonio, Texas. Ida was employed with several businesses. During this time, she attended St. Philip’s College and received an Associates Arts degree. Determined to use her education Ida applied for a position at St. Philip’s College that enabled her to help and encourage young people as they pursued their education. Her career at St. Philip’s spanned over 35 years.
She united in Holy Matrimony to Grover L. Hodges on December 25, 1978, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Grover preceded her in death on May 7, 1982.
Her memory will be cherished: Ida leaves her daughter Karen Denise Ellison, her son Michael Howard Battle both of San Antonio, Texas. Grandsons, Derick Edwards Battle (Deborah), Terry Battle. Granddaughters Amber Michelle Battle, Emerald Denise Battle Eggleston (Don’ta). Great granddaughters, Kendra Kate Battle, Olivia Noelle Eggleston. As well as a host of nieces, nephew, cousins, Godchildren, and beloved friends.
Ida was a kind loving and generous person. She was loved by many and we will miss her very much.
