HENRY LEE COLVIN

April 18, 1947 ~ December 25, 2023

Henry “Best Fisherman” Lee Colvin Sr. was born April 18, 1947 in Gary, Indiana to Nolan Colvin and Mini Lee Jacobs. He was the youngest of nine; three sisters ; Curly Mae, Arzellion Dolores Colvin, Zelma Ree Colvin and five brothers; Glendale Colvin, Monroe, Colvin, Roosevelt, Colvin, William Colvin and Relis Bunn all who preceded him in death. Henry made a peaceful transition after being called home on December 25, 2023.

Henry grew up in Gary, Indiana. He often boasted about babysitting Michael Jackson. He enlisted in the United States Army in August 1966 and served two years.  At a young age Henry met the love of his life Thalia Eileen Richardson. In October of 1966 he and Eileen married and to this Union three children were born; Henry Lee Colvin Jr, Andrea Eileen Rogers (Edward), and  Comeaco Leeann Johnson. He had four grandchildren Lephil Colvin, Ashley Warren, April, Rogers, and Alijah Rogers and four great grandchildren.

Henry and Eileen moved from Marion, Indiana to San Antonio, Texas in 1976 to get away from the frigid winter cold. He worked for San Antonio Water Systems (SAWS) as a Laborer, was promoted to Operator and after 26 years he retired as a Foreman. He knew the city so well he could give you directions and include the number of stoplights you’d pass before each turn. During his time SAWS he made many lifelong friends on and off the job.

Henry was a good man with a huge heart for God and because he believed, he allowed God‘s love of people to shine through him by providing love and service to a multitude of others.  He was a great father, he cherished his relationships with his children always providing for them, praying for them and supporting them. He loved being a grandfather and was proud to see each of them grow into magnificent young adults. Henry volunteered at church, sang in the choir, drove the church van and called bingo at the senior center.

ALL THING FISHING was his greatest passion. Every time he returned from a fruitful fishing trip, he’d pridefully take pictures of his catch, separate and filet the fish and go out to unselfishly deliver it to church members and friends in the community.

Henry’s light will shine brightly in heaven, his family and friends, and in those who were touched by his kindness, grace and smile. His precious memories will be cherished forever.

Mr Dennis Bell, we went on a fishing trip to Ohio every summer.

  3. Mr. Colvin will be missed. He always had a smile and such great faith. You could count on a smile when fishing was brought up. He once shared he got the passion for fishing from his mother long ago. May he rest in peace.

  5. I will always remember when I was a kid my uncle would pick me and my little sister Annette up at one time and put us on his shoulders he was very strong and I will always love and miss him it’s never goodbye it’s see you later

  6. Mr. Colvin’s daughters and I have been friends for over 40 years. Somewhere along the line, we adopted one another as father and daughter. He was there for me and shared in my special moments as well as support through the bad. He allowed me to join him and his family on their outing to fish, although I didn’t want to touch anything, I at least almost caught a turtle. Lol. We would drive out of town to enjoy a meal and buy the biggest watermelons I’ve ever seen, which I love. When I lost my biological father, he sat and talked to me for hours. When I lost my mother and my heart was broken in 1 million pieces, he sat and cried with me.
He would always lend an ear so that I could release what was bottled up inside, he provided his shoulder for me to rest my head on, and a hand that would hold mine when I felt alone and reminded me that everything would be OK. I will NEVER forget you and I will love you for the rest of my life. Thank you for being who you were to me Papa Henry! I will miss you.

    Your daughter through love,
    Brenda
