GWENDOLYN DEVILLIER

September 9, 1955 ~ June 7, 2023

Gwendolyn was born September 9th 1955 in Orange New Jersey to the late Vernon Nelson and Teresa Floretta Bartlett. She passed over on June 7th 2023 in Newark New Jersey.

Gwen attended public schools in East Orange New Jersey and graduated from John F Kennedy High School in Iselin. NJ in 1973. She attended Seton Hall University where she obtained a bachelor’s of arts degree in urban planning in 1977.

Upon graduation Gwendolyn worked in education and then moved to employment with the Newark Housing Authority where through hard work she obtained promotions and success for many years.

She relocated to Kerrville TX in 1994 and after several jobs she obtained employment with the Department of Health and Human Services at the Kerrville State Hospital through her work ethic and love for people she was awarded among many other merits the shining star employee of the year. She retired from social services department after over 10 years of service in 2020.

On February the third 2013 Gwendolyn married the love of her life Russell Devillier an inherited two stepdaughters Sydni and Taylor Devillier. On March on March 28, 2018. She added two additional family members loving friend Joanna Freeman and son Jayden Devillier of which she leaves to cherish her loving memory.

Gwendolyn loved to travel to the Caribbean islands among other places. She loved sowing and play cards yet she is most remembered for making her world famous potato salad for backyard cookouts spending time with family and friends.

She was preceded in her death by her father and mother Vernon and Teresa Nelson

And is survived by three brothers Vernon Nelson and his wife Virginia. Byron Nelson and his wife Linda. James Nelson and the late Valerie. Nephews Elimu, Bassel, Aarron, Benjamin, and a beautiful niece Regina amongst other family and friends.

My deepest condolences ❤️💐 I love this woman she a beautiful heart that will be missed ,she funny, her laugh was fun , she help us out so many times with the COPSD fellowship, she organized the bingo or games during our summer barbecue here at the KSH , I was looking forward in calling her for our next event , since the covid ordeal is at a standstill 🙏
