Gloria Jewel Lindsay Goodwin passed away peacefully in her sleep on February 5, 2019 surrounded by her two most precious gifts, her husband and her daughter.
Gloria was the fifth of eleven children born to her parents, the late Joe Bass Benson Lindsay and Ruth Edna Roberts Lindsay, on March 25, 1950 in San Antonio, Texas. In 1955, Mr. Lindsay moved the family to Beeville, Texas (Clareville community) so he could work his farm and ranch full-time. While living in Beeville, Gloria was an active member of Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church, 4-H Club, and the Future Homemakers of America (FHA). She enjoyed playing the piano for church services; and, competing and winning 4-H and FHA competitions. She attended public school at Skidmore-Tynan and upon graduating entered Coastal Bend College (formerly Bee County College).
With a thirst for the nursing profession, Gloria entered nursing school. In 1977, she obtained a Diploma of Nursing from Saint Louis Jewish School of Nursing, Saint Louis, Missouri, and in 1983, she obtained a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Saint Louis University, Saint Louis, Missouri. Post graduate studies included Oncology at Saint Louis University and Health Services Management at Webster University.
Gloria was an avid supporter and volunteered countless hours to improve and save lives of those suffering from cancer. Gloria drew upon this foundational experience as she became an active volunteer for over a decade with several organizations including the American Cancer Society and the Alamo Breast Cancer Foundation. Whether a programmatic chair, fundraiser, patient navigator or volunteer lobbyist, her passion and dedication focused on research, patience assistance and public policy to eliminate cancer as a major health problem. Even when she had to face breast cancer as a patient (and subsequent survivor), she continued to be a beacon for others.
Some community activities and recognitions include (San Antonio Chapter):
-Chairperson of the Eastside Relay of Life
-Member, Board of Directors, 2004 – 2005 and 2008 – 2009
-Chairperson, Breast Health Awareness
-Chairperson, American Cancer Society Tell-A-Friend, 2001 – 2003
-Recipient, Macy’s Heart of Soul
-Award, Excellence in the Fight Against Breast Cancer, 2002

During her professional career, Gloria held numerous clinical, managerial, and leadership positions. She was a member of the Professional Nursing Sorority Chi Eta Phi.
In 2001, Gloria founded GL HealthCare Solutions, LLC, a professional consulting firm which she served as the Chief Executive Officer. The professional consulting firm focused on providing services to Pharmacy Benefit Management companies, as well as, to their clients.
Gloria’s passion for helping others extended beyond nursing. She was active in church ministries. When returning to San Antonio, Gloria was appointed Chairperson of the Health and Wellness Ministry for, both, Macedonia Baptist Church and Resurrection Baptist Church. She coordinated the ministry’s service at Churchwide events, as well as, weekly worship and developed and implemented special programs for the congregation ranging from education to testing. Although she retired from her chair post to focus on her health, she remained close to her Resurrection Baptist Church family.
Gloria was preceded in death by her parents and three siblings (Jackie Ray, Ruthie Elaine, and John Bass).
She is survived by her loving husband, Larry Goodwin, her daughter, Richele Morgan (Jeff), and Ericka Goodwin; four brothers: Lt. Col. Joe Lindsay, Retired, (Barbara); Jerome Lindsay (Demetria); Judge Sam Lindsay (Kathleen); and Dr. Jeff Lindsay (Connie); and three sisters: Dr. Beverly Lindsay; Faye Lindsay; and Princess Lindsay; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives.
In lieu of flowers, Gloria would encourage contributions to WINGS (https://texaswings.org/) or the American Cancer Society (American Cancer Society; PO Box 22718; Oklahoma City, OK 73123 with notation “restrict to San Antonio service area only”).

The laughter, the joy, the twist and turns, the memories, all define our journey of 47 years. Nothing happens by chance and we were blessed to become friends, “Besties”, and sisters. The end of your battle has come, however I believe you will once again be reunited with those who have proceeded you and love you. Take your place, my beautiful sister, (don’t forget your pearl earrings). I thank God for bringing you and your beautiful daughter into our lives. Thank you Larry for loving and caring for her.

My condolences to all of you on your loss. I remember a young Gloria always looking out for and taking care of those younger than her in 4H. After reading her obituary, it appears she was just getting started! What a wonderful record of service to her community! May you receive some comfort as you mourn together and share wonderful memories. What a loss for the world. Guess God needed another angel to help him out in Heaven. Prayers for all of you as you mourn her loss.Â
Gloria was such a beautiful person inside and out. Her presence will certainly be missed. I can hear the bell ring as another Angel has earned her wings. We love you Gloria; may you rest in peace.

Gloria,Â
My beautiful, fun, and wonderfully sweet friend; my heart is so heavy right now. Lady, you were truly “one of a kind!” I will never forget that you were the first to befriend me when I joined Macedonia, nearly 20 years ago. From that moment on we became fast friends. I will forever cherish our times together; and will remember you with nothing but love until my last days. Gloria, you have earned your wings now. I know that Heaven is rejoicing to have gained such a beautiful Angel. Rest easy, “precious jewel”… Larry & Richele, my sincere condolences to you both, as well as your entire family. Â
Sincerely, Mary Williams
Mrs. Goodwin was a beautiful person inside and out. She was always encouraging and real to talk to. I can still hear her voice to this day giving me advice and saying that everything was okay. I so appreciated her. She always had time for others and I admired that. Both she and Mr. Goodwin were just a joy to be around. I know that God called this Angel home and we will miss her. I wish the family condolences and may your memories and the prayers of friends bring your comforts. We love you all. Rest in Heaven Beautiful, Love you…. Tanya Anderson-Brown

Dear Family:
Please accept my heartfelt condolences in the loss of your dear loved one. Please comfort in the scripture at Job 14:14 where it says , “If a man dies, can he live again? I will wait all the days of my compulsory service until my relief comes.” What a wonderful hope for the future.
Sincerely,
My deepest condolences to Larry and all of Gloria’s family. I so enjoyed all the time I spent with Gloria working on the Cattle Baron’s Gala and other American Cancer Society activities. She was a volunteer and she became a friend. I was always so happy when I heard her lovely voice coming down the hall. Gloria did so much for others and gave so much to the community. She was truly a blessing to the American Cancer Society and her efforts made a difference in so many lives.
