EMMA MAE MYART

March 1, 1949 ~ July 15, 2024

Emma Mae Myart was born on March 1, 1949, in Waelder, Texas to Travis Stockton and Rylee Wilson. Emma was the youngest of nine children.

Emma initially attended Waelder High School, where she was a member of the girls’ basketball team. She relocated to San Antonio to live with her sister, Magalene Mathis, where she finished her education at Phyllis Wheatley High School, in 1967.

During a Juneteenth Celebration, in San Antonio (Comanche Park), she met the future love of her life, Harold Myart Sr.  Shortly after this initial meeting, Emma moved to Oregon to pursue a job opportunity, followed by a stay in California with her sister Lenora Albert.  Emma continued to communicate with Harold and eventually moved back to Texas.

On August 10, 1968, they united in Holy Matrimony. They had a beautiful life together for 56 years. With this union they had a loving son, Harold Myart Jr. Emma was profoundly dedicated to her family with unwavering and unconditional love, strength, and a generosity that extended far beyond her immediate family and one that encompassed so many.

Emma accepted Christ at an early age and was a faithful active member of the Hope Cumberland Presbyterian Church in America under the late Rev. James W. Myart Sr. and her husband, Rev. Harold Myart Sr.  Hope Cumberland Presbyterian Church hosted Fellowship Dinners on First Sundays, and the members of the church looked forward to her providing delicious specialty foods.  Southern peach cobbler, seven-up cake, and flavorful pinto beans, just to name a few.

Emma entered the workforce in her early years, and much of her career included working with kids at Parent Child Incorporated (PCI) childcare. She would later become the Education Center Coordinator and Manager Directing of her own center, until she retired after 30 years.  In 2001, Emma met her first grandchild (Harold III), followed by the second (Branden) in 2004. They were the love of her life, and she enjoyed every moment she spent with them! Summer vacations for the grandkids at grandma's were especially significant. These times allowed her to extend her love, while enjoying fun and fulfilling activities with them.

Emma was very creative and crafty.  Over the years, this became evident in the many classy outfits, including dress suits and dresses, she created and sewed for her family.  Emma designed a line of beautiful dolls that she would sell or give as a gift to others.  She also had a gifted hand with interior decorating.

In her later years, Emma enjoyed fellowshipping with her closest friends at the District 2 Senior Center. She shared many fond memories with her family regarding the activities at the center: playing games, putting on her dancing shoes, and participating in fashion shows, and attending events in the San Antonio area.

Just recently in 2024, Emma was so excited to celebrate a wonderful 75th Birthday celebration with nieces, nephews, and a host of other family members at her favorite seafood restaurant.

Emma was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and true friend that lived in God's Grace.  She leaves behind a legacy of unwavering love, kindness, and of genuinely blessing the lives of those she encountered. She will be missed dearly.

Emma leaves to cherish her memories; her husband, Rev. Harold Myart Sr. and her son Harold Myart Jr. (daughter-in-law LaNetrice). Her grandchildren, Harold Myart III and Branden Myart. Her siblings Magalene Mathis (San Antonio, TX) and Lenora Albert (Lynwood, CA).  Her cousin, Otto Thompson; childhood friends, Gerthie Pettit and Cloma Harvey; and a host of nieces, nephews, and close friends.  She is preceded in death by her parents, Travis Stockton and Rylee Wilson, her sister Johnnie Lee Fields, her brothers LV Wilson, Cecil Wilson, Wilbert Wilson, GV Wilson, and Joe Wilson.
