ELNORA WATTS JEFFERSON

August 24, 1939 ~ April 15, 2022

Our dear mother, Elnora Jefferson, peacefully crossed life’s finish line on April 15, 2022 in San Antonio, Texas after an extended illness.  She ran the race of life set before her graciously as a child of God.  She is now resting in the loving presence of our heavenly Father.  She was the youngest girl of seven children born to Robert and Katie Watts on August 24, 1939 in Pachuta, Mississippi.

Our mother became childhood friends with our father, Dan Jefferson, Sr.  A courtship budded for them as teenagers. Their love blossomed into matrimony in 1959.  God blessed their marriage with the four of us.  With our father being in the Army, the first 17 years of their marriage was characterized by six moves within the United States and Europe. Our mother was an active and beloved Army wife mentoring and nurturing other wives.  Our parents finally settled in San Antonio, Texas to raise us.  After 41 years of marriage, our father passed away on April 7, 2000.  Although plagued with a broken heart, our mother found the strength to continue her journey while looking forward to being with him again in eternal life.

Our mother was a 1959 graduate of Northside High School in Rose Hill, Mississippi.  She was employed by LaQuinta Inn And Suites for many years and was a member of management upon retirement.  During her tenure, she received several awards for her exemplary performance.

Christianity was an anchor for our mother since she was a child.  She was a faithful member of MacArthur Park Church Of Christ spanning multiple decades until her passing.  She served in various ministries as her health permitted.

Our mother was soft spoken.  She was a woman of very few words with a calm and gentle spirit. Throughout her earthly journey, she maximized her spiritual gift of hospitality which gave her enormous joy.  She used this gift to bless her family, her community, and her coworkers.  She was an excellent and passionate cook whose table was always open for anyone wanting a good meal.  She cooked in abundance so that she could bless guests with lots of food to take home.  Additionally, she blessed many people with surplus groceries from her pantry and freezer.

Our mother was an avid fan of all sports.  It was a constant topic of enthusiastic discussion.  Her favorite sports teams were the San Antonio Spurs, Kansas City Chiefs, Dallas Cowboys, and Seattle Seahawks.

Our mother is now joyfully reunited with our father, her parents, and all her siblings.  The following remain to treasure her legacy:  four children – William Jefferson (Janice) of Frisco, TX; Dan Jefferson, Jr. (Laura) of San Antonio, TX; Paul Jefferson of Seattle, WA; Christina Thomas (Thurston) of San Antonio, TX; six grandchildren – Unique Winbush, Winston Jefferson, Joshua Thomas, Mark Jefferson, Tiffany Anderson, and Daniel Riley.  Additionally, she leaves a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends to cherish her love and memories.

During our mother’s earthly journey of 82 years, whether presented with simplicity or complexity, she kept running her race with faith and never stopped.  Our mother finished her race, and she finished it well.
