Elizabeth Burton Williams was born on March 10, 1927 in Waelder, Texas to the union of Squire and Novella Burton of Waelder, Texas. She is one of 26 brothers and sisters of the late Squire and Novella Burton also of Waelder, Texas. Her parents were avid farmers and she performed many farm related chores and, she and her other siblings picked cotton to further supplement the family’s income. She attended Bunch High School. She relocated to San Antonio, Texas in the early 1950’s and shortly after her arrival in San Antonio she united with Mt. Rose Baptist Church. On July 29, 1954 she gave birth to a beautiful and loving devoted son James Douglas Manous who currently resides in Sierra Vista, Arizona. She also worked as a domestic homemaker and, later she joined St. Stephens Baptist Church and became an active member and shortly after became a member of the choir and elevated to become president of the Women’s Mission, Sunday School Teacher, Church Secretary and served on the board of Trustees. Her other Christian endeavors and affiliations include serving on the San Antonio Baptist Association, San Antonio Baptist Children’s Home, President of the United Homeowners Improvement Association, Secretary of the Meadowview Park Neighborhood Watch, Senior Vice Commander and Chaplin of 128 Disable American Veterans Auxiliary also children’s mentor at Bella Cameron Elementary School. On Thanksgiving Day 1961 she met the love of her life Harold Williams on active duty in the U.S. Army stationed at Fort Sam Houston, Texas, after courtship they were married on March 21, 1962, they were devoted, committed and married for 56 years until the Lord called her home on February 2, 2018. During her long-term illness her loving, committed and devoted husband cared for her in a home setting because he felt no nursing facility was adequate to care for her special needs. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and they traveled throughout Europe and the United States. She loved people and her genuine demeanor and personality won her the love and respect of almost everyone she met. She especially loved and adored all her grandchildren and would do anything for them. She also had a unique passion for young children who would capture her attention for their cute, innocence and safety. Her belief and faith in Christianity was deeply rooted, she sang songs and praised God all day and every day. Some of her past time interests includes baking Peach Cobbler Pie, Fishing, Bowling, Dominos, Traveling and Singing.
She leaves behind to cherish her memories is her loving husband of 56 years Harold J. Williams, her son James Douglas Manous (Elma) of Sierra Vista, Arizona, 7 Sisters, Dorothy Simms of San Antonio, Shirly Pipkins of San Antonio, Margaret Dunn (Frank) of San Antonio, Julia Crockett of San Antonio, Ann White of San Antonio, Novella Sullivan (George of Waelder, Texas), Emmaline Townsend of Gonzales, Texas, 4 Brothers, Vanel Burton of San Antonio, John Burton (Gladys) of San Antonio, Baryon Burton of San Antonio, Raysaw Burton of Waelder, Texas, 6 Grandchildren, Michelle Wilson of San Antonio, Dyanna Flanagan of San Antonio, Vinel Ponzio of Denver, Colorado, Vincent Ponzio (Lillian) of Phoenix, Arizona, Edward Ponzio (Gloria) of Sierra Vista, Arizona, Conchetta Ponzio, Sierra Vista, Arizona, 17 Great Grandchildren and a host of Nieces, Nephews, Cousins and friends.
