On September 22, 1952, in the small town of La Grange, Texas Walter Wolford and Josie Wolford welcomed their 9th child Edward Lee Wolford, who was commonly known as Eddie, Ed, or as he called himself “ Eddie Love” into this world. Eddie was reared to the Lord at an early age by his parents. He was baptized at Spring Hill Baptist Church in La Grange, Texas and joined First Providence Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. S. Clifton Byrd. His education consisted of him attending school briefly in the La Grange ISD and primarily in the San Antonio ISD.
Eddie moved to San Antonio, Texas with his parents. In his early years he met and married Diane Harris. To their union they shared three children Edward Wolford Jr (Bumpy), Kenneth Wolford (Weeney), and Gary Wolford (Redd). In 1978 Ed met the love of his life Gracie Houston who he always affectionately called “Mamma or Verne”, adding four bonus children to their relationship Debbie, Kenny Wayne, Michelle, and La Genia. Through the years they would share their love of their blended family, and continued devotion by raising some of their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In 2010 Eddie and Gracie made it official and united in Holy Matrimony. The two shared a total of 46 years together.
Eddie Love was a hard worker, he worked as a Porter and Delivery Driver. He worked at Red McCombs, Comet Signs, Motor Imports, and The San Antonio Auction. In his younger days he enjoyed playing softball, coaching youth football and softball. He also enjoyed washing cars with his brothers, barbequing for family, playing dominoes with family and friends, listening to the blues and watching sports. Watching sports, perhaps, was one of his most enjoyable pastimes where he cheered on his favorite teams, the Los Angeles Lakers and the Green Bay Packers. In fact, his home was well known for a huge Lakers sign that he proudly displayed, which often attracted locals and tourists to blow their horns during basketball season.
Eddie Love will be remembered for his magnetic smile, jokester personality, dancing off beat, arguing with family and friends over sports, and loving his Twisted Teas. His kind, loving, and gentle spirit will be missed. He took tremendous pride in being a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend to all.
He is preceded in death by his parents Walter and Josie Wolford; his siblings Walter Wolford Jr, Elo Wolford, Floyd Wolford, L.C. Wolford, Marie Bisco, and Ruby Wolford. Also preceding him death was his grandson La Trevious Reed.
Those left to be blessed by his beautiful legacy are his wife Gracie Wolford, children Edward Lee Wolford (Kim R), Kenneth Wolford (Kisha), Gary Wolford (Kim W) grandchildren raised Monique Reed (Levi), Thomas Thompson, Sequisha Wolford, Travon Thompson, Trevontae Thomphson, Tyrese Wolford, stepchildren Michelle Hartsfield (Robert), Debbie Thomphson (Freddie), Kenny Wayne Thompson (Laurie), LaGenia Wilson(Brian) Sister Pauline Roberson and Brother Charles Wolford (Bettie) one Aunt Darlena Williams, special cousins Larry Chase and Peter, special nephew Floyd Wolford Jr. A host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
