Debra Eileen Gordon was born on July 16, 1954 to the union of James Gordon, Jr and Mary B. Austin Gordon. She made her appearance at Eagle Lake Hospital, she was the first child born to this union.
At an early age, she was encouraged to become a member of St. Paul AME Church in Eagle Lake, Texas. It was there that the foundation of her spiritual development was formed. She learned how the power of prayer gave you hope, faith and strength to make this journey. She adored her Aunt Willie who with her great singing voice was the musical director. Debra developed a great love for music at this time.
Debra was a product of the San Antonio School District, she graduated with “Honors” from Sam Houston High School in 1972. She entered San Antonio Jr. College for Accounting.
Debra began work as an Accountant Assistant at Tesoro. She stayed there for about 3 years. Later, she and her family moved to Houston, Texas where she was employed by Tranco Oil and Gas Company for fifteen years as an Accountant Assistant. When ill health began to plaque her, she returned to San Antonio. She became a member of St Paul United Methodist Church.
Debra’s community affiliation included Library Assistant and Feed the Lamb Organization. Her hobbies were photography, art, sewing and music.
In 1972, she married Kenneth V. Edwards and to this union one son was born.
