DEACON JOHN LEE BROWN

John Lee Brown went home to be with the Lord on Sunday September 15, 2024.  He was 85 years old at the time of his death.  John was born on March 1,1939 in Davisboro, GA. His parents were the deceased Willie George and Polly Ann Brown. John had two deceased sisters, Pauline Jane Anderson and Christine Frasier.

He is survived by a sister Geraldine Brown of Indianapolis, IN.  His wife is Glenwood Stevenson. John and Glenwood would have celebrated 29 years of marriage in October 2024.  He has one son Gary Brown of Sunnyside, NY, a daughter Julie Brown of Killeen, TX, and a stepdaughter Cristal M. Richardson of Averøy, Norway.  He is also survived by 3 grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild and numerous nephews and nieces.

John retired from the Army after 23 years in 1988. He received numerous awards during his service including the Purple Heart for his service in Viet Nam as he described as “coming home more dead than alive”.  After his retirement from the Army, he was involved in real estate both as an agent and Broker.  John enjoyed helping people in whatever capacity he could.  John was very active as a deacon at the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church and slowed his activity to take care of his wife during her illness and then his illness kept him away after that.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 Tuesday September 24, 2024, at the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, 1001 N. North Walters St. San Antonio, TX.  Interment will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
