A kind, fun, and loving mother.
Darlene Beatrice McKnight was born in San Antonio, Texas on April 24, 1953 to parents Thad and Doris (Sims) Williams. She grew up on the Eastside with her brothers: Thomas, Kenneth (nicknamed Kenny, deceased) and Charles (nicknamed Chaz, deceased). As a child, she attended St. Peter Claver Catholic School, Emerson Junior High and later graduated from Fox Tech High School.
At St. Phillips College, she studied nursing and received her nurse's license in 1973. During that year, she married Wilburn Allen McKnight. a Seguin, Texas native. Their union led to three children: Deanna, Chandra, and Wilburn, Jr. (who survived both parents). Darlene continued to work and live in San Antonio with her family. She will be most remembered by friends who called her Darla, for her work at Santa Rosa's Children's Hospital, 7th floor and San Antonio State School.
Although she suffered many illnesses, she never let her positivity or endearing spirit die. She stayed true to herself and remained a supportive and loving mother.
For those who may not know this, Darlene enjoyed being around her children, laughing, listening to audiobooks, bingo, traveling, and music by Earth, Wind and Fire.
She will be dearly missed.
