Daniel Tyrone Simmons, Jr. AKA “Mad Dog », as he was affectionately known, was born in Brooklyn, NY to Daniel and Levonia Reid Simmons. He was educated in New York before joining the United States Army in 1962 and continued to serve until 1970. Upon relocating to San Antonio, Texas began his career in the Fort Sam Houston Commissary which lasted for 15 years. Ironically, most of his nephews and friends, perhaps nieces, too, followed him on his journey through non appropriate civil service.
Daniel, as aforementioned was lovingly known as Mad Dog, uncle Simmons to his nieces and nephews. Uncle Simmons loved being around his family and friends, drinking, playing dominoes and dancing. He enjoyed barbecuing and family get togethers. Simmons loved his NY Knicks and the New York Giants, but he also loved the San Antonio Spurs. He enjoyed singing and dancing with his wife. Unk loved all his children, nieces, nephews, stepchildren and step grandchildren. Simmons enjoyed life always smiling and having a good time.
Daniel loved his wife Donna J. Simmons unconditionally. The couple shared good times together. Simmons made sure Donna was taken care of. He loved to drink his liquor and smoke his cigarettes. Simmons was a people person. He could talk and party with anybody. He really loved being around people. He was always smiling, and he would always tell everyone “Don’t never give up the fight, always stay strong” and yes, he was the Mad Dog.
Unk was preceded in death by his parents, sister Gloria Davis and his daughter, Michelle Bruno as well as several nieces, nephews and friends. His former wife Bessie also preceded him.
Simmons is survived by his wife, Donna Jill Simmons and her children and grandchildren, step son Daryl, sister Connie , numerous nephews and nephews in San Antonio as well as in New York and a host of other relatives and friends.
