CORDELIA ELIZABETH JOHNSON

January 23, 1926 ~ December 27, 2020

Cordelia Elizabeth Wilson Johnson was the youngest daughter out of nine children born to Thomas and Cora Wilson. She was born  January 23, 1926, in Guadalupe County, Capote, Texas, and accepted Christ at an early age at Capote Baptist Church. During her high school years, Cordelia moved to San Antonio, Texas and was a graduate of Wheatley High School. She married the late Arthur Lee Johnson, Sr., and to this union eight children were horn. Her infant son Dennis Johnson preceded her in death.

Cordelia was a devoted wife and was married for 51 years. Focused on her husband and children, Cordelia traveled with her husband throughout the country, and in Germany establishing the household and raising her family. She loved being a mother and focused her efforts making sure her children received an education, and understood the value it provided. She enjoyed cooking and you could smell her peach cobbler a mile away whenever she made them for friends and family.

Cordelia and her husband decided to make San Antonio, Texas their final residence once retired from the military. She joined Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of the late Reverend J.J. Rector. As a member, she was also involved with the women's missionary. On December 27, 2020 she was called home and is survived by her children. Her surviving children are: Kenneth Bernard Johnson (Deborah), Arthur Lee Johnson, Jr. (Joyce), Darlene Johnson Hollis (Nathan), Melvin Jerome Johnson (Alfreda), Cheryl Ann Hudson (Frederick), Barbara Jean Vaughn (Eric), and Margaret Elizabeth Johnson. She has 10 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild, two sisters-in-law Mildred Wilson and Jewel Wilson, along with a host of nieces, nephews, additional family, and friends.
