CHARLES ETTA GIRDY

Charles Etta (Williams) Girdy, age 79, born September 17, 1940 in San Antonio, Texas, the first child born to George and Bernice (Tease) Williams and first grandchild to Woody and Adeline (Jones) Tease, passed away peacefully on October 28, 2019 at Baylor, Scott & White Hospital in Waxahachie, Texas, where her family had recently relocated her to be cared for by her daughter Carla and her husband Roy (Kevin).

Charles Etta grew up on the Westside of San Antonio where she attended public schools before attending St. Peter Claver High School.  She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized by Reverend Johnson at St. Luke Baptist Church. 

Charles Etta worked various positions throughout her life, mostly in the healthcare field, but her most cherished position held was that of mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.  She was affectionately called “Granny” by her grand and great-grandchildren. 

Charles Etta was preceded in death by her parents George Emmitt Williams Sr. and Bernice Louise (Tease) Williams, her brother, George (Bubba) Williams, Jr. and loving grandparents. 

She is survived by her four daughters, Carla Govan (Roy) Mitchell; Sharon Govan (John) Smith; Stephanie Harris (George); LaTaya Williams (Stevie) Brown; two sons, Daryl (Angela) Richardson; Carl (Brenda) Govan, Jr., sister Debra (Bobby) Hooper, 17 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  All of whom she loved dearly.
