Cecile L. Forney Ray, a loving wife, devoted mother, cherished grandmother and great-grandmother, beloved sister, aunt, and dear friend, peacefully entered eternal rest on December 14, 2025, at the remarkable age of 106, in San Antonio, Texas.

A proud San Antonio native, Cecile was born on December 5, 1919, to the late Clifford Forney Sr. and Henrietta Ellsford Forney. She was united in holy matrimony to the love of her life, Algy Lee Ray, and together they shared a beautiful union of 64 years until his passing on November 1, 2001.

Cecile was a woman of extraordinary talent and creativity. She studied millinery at St. Philip’s College in San Antonio and went on to become a highly skilled and professional seamstress. Known for her impeccable craftsmanship, she designed and made all of her own clothing, as well as garments for churches, school uniforms, and custom hats—some of which were featured in the San Antonio Express-News. Her talents extended beyond sewing to include upholstery and drapery work. In her quieter moments, she found great joy in gardening, nurturing beauty wherever she planted.

A woman of strong faith, Cecile was a faithful and devoted member of Mt. Zion First Baptist Church for over 50 years, where she served and worshiped with unwavering dedication.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Algy Lee Ray; her 3 daughters: Barbara Jackson, Algereida Cherry, and Beverly Armstrong; her siblings, Vivian Forney, Harold Forney, Julius Forney, Lily Forney-Stone, Patsy Ruth Forney-Williams, and Clifford Forney.

Cecile leaves to cherish her precious memories her loving son, Charles Ray (Rubye); 14 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and many dear friends.

Her legacy of love, faith, creativity, and strength will continue to live on through all who were blessed to know her.
