Brenda Nella Hartfield was born to Joseph L. Hartfield and Pearl Smith Hartfield on September 22, 1952, in Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Brenda departed from us on Monday August 5th, 2024. Being that her dad was in the military Brenda was fortunate to travel the world as a young child. Brenda was born with some mental disabilities, but she never let that stop her from living life to the fullest, she attended school and obtained her high school diploma. Brenda loves to write and would write letters all the time. If Brenda knew you, she knew your birthday and your child’s birthday and made sure that everyone else knew it to. Brenda was never married but she did have one son, Maurice, who has preceded her in death.
Brenda was a faithful servant and a member of St Joseph A.M.E Church here in San Antonio, TX under the leadership of long-time family friend Rev. Marilyn Andrews. Brenda served as an usher where she shined at the most, she loved helping and talking to people. While attending St Joseph AME she helped service the homeless and worked in our outreach program where she was able to meet so many people and bless them with her loving personality. Brenda also attended Golden Gate Missionary Church where they also treated her like family, and she fit right in like a glove. She went back to ushering because that is something that she did enjoy. Brenda also attended South Side Lions community program. She did enjoy going and just being able to talk to different people. Brenda never hesitated when it came to helping people, she wanted to be on the front line.
Brenda cared for her son with the help pf family until he was called home along with her mother Pearl. Faith would lead us to believe that the 3 musketeers are back together again to rest in peace and rise in Glory. Brenda leaves to mourn her Brothers Edward, Robert, Samuel, and Frank Hartfield, Sisters Lola Lewis and Mary Sheppard, and a host of nieces and nephews that she adored.
Brenda was preceded in death by her loving son Maurice Lamar Hartfield, her mother and father Pearl Smith Hartfield and Joseph Lamar Hartfield, her brothers Joe B. Hartfield, James Squirrel Hartfield, sisters Belinda Ann Hartfield, Pearl L. Hartfield, Celestine Hartfield, and nephew Monty Runnels and niece Daija Hartfield.
Brenda will be greatly missed. She was a fun cousin. She loved everyone. Rest In Peace my little cousin.
